california monsoons could lead to earthquakes?

    im no geologist.

but when i built sandcastles at the beach as a kid, a bucket of water made the castle fall down real fast.

now california is seeing rivers of water fall onto the state. after years of drought.

throw in a little statistics that say a big one is on deck?

might wanna think relocation if you live in cali about now.

It wouldn't be illogical to think that the weight of all that water suddenly saturating all of that long-parched land would have seismic effects of some sort.

    edit: IMO, OP

Scientists have looked at the weight issue for years and most think there is no cause-effect...however...if you look at the effect of the rain on California...the mud and landslides it causes do seem to have an effect.
When I lived in Northern California we used to have a saying when it was too sunny that it was earthquake weather

The land and mudslide theory was actually proposed by someone many years ago...although there was never an immediate effect...usually months to years later...so not real conclusive

Heavy Rainfall Can Cause Huge Earthquakes

Whether or not the rain in California will trigger "the big one" or not is anyone's guess. All I'm saying is I would find it very hard to believe that loading a land mass in a short time (days or weeks) with an abnormally large load of rain has no measurable seismic effects.

With the erosion and land being moved along with debris from one spot and dumped everywhere, something is bound to happen. However, I would think that it take several yrs of severe storms and flooding to set that event off.

But like you, I am no geologist either so what would I know
