I believe they should most definitely learn the language. However, putting the requirement aside ...you would think they would WANT to learn the language. Hell, I know that I would not want to relocate to some foreign country without learning the language. I mean, can you imagine me living in Germany (for example) and not knowing anything but English and trying to schedule shoots? So yeah, for me personally, I would actually want to learn the language. My step father came from Belgium, and barely spoke a word of English. He's told me more than once that not speaking fluent English has hindered him on multiple levels. It was difficult for him to get a job, and when he did get a job it was difficult for him to advance due to language barriers.

Just makes sense to me. If I was to move to Mexico, I would learn how to speak Spanish.

here in CZ more and more people speak English but in general I agree completely with what you say

I do speak some basics, mostly enough for restaurants and supermarkets. But I have employees that I can take with me for translation, an English speaking accountant and quite a few Czech and Slovak friends that speak either English or German.

I only blame myself for not learning more and since I do not see myself moving away from here, I will tackle this issue someday

just be tolerant...no foreigner speaks our language but it does not stop me from being nice to them...I have 2 foreign friends who live here in serbia one is from hungary the other from france, the french guy knows a word or two of serbian the hungarian guy does not know a word LOL...they are both great guys, I do not mind one bit...actually it never crossed my mind to think that they have some sort of obligation to learn my language...

we have a hungarian minority in the south, they speak hungarian...I went to a shop there and the lady did not know serbian, she made me a nice sandwich and we communicated with hand signals...
