Walmart takes aim at Amazon. free 2 day shipping

Walmart announces free 2-day shipping - Business Insider

I'm sort of amazed it's taken Walmart so long to try to go head to head with Amazon.. No Amazon Prime style fee either, just straight up free 2 day shipping if the order is over $35 bucks.

Does not even compare to Amazon. Walmart is worlds away from competing with Amazon. Amazon Prime is a bargain for what you get if you never even ordered one item from Amazon. Walmart bought Jet dot com for billions to compete, but their prices are nothing special. I tried Jet, one half of my order came on the 3rd day and the other half on the 4th day. So free 2 day shipping spread over 4 days does not impress.

I've never been on the Wal Mart site. Just tried it. Meh. Pretty much the same as their stores.

Nice to see more competition though. Amazon has slowly been instituting "price creep" - especially with their Prime free shipping (prices will be slightly higher for Prime members, but include free shipping).

Amazon often gets me on the impulse next day shipping upgrade.

The Wal-Mart site sucks, like their stores. You'D think they'd make their site look cooler too, other than bright white background, robin egg blue header and yellow highlights UGH!

Walmart's web site is horrible but honestly so is Amazon's until you get used to it..

I mean for fucks sake the average user of Amazon doesn't know there is shit for sale on their site past the "buy box".. ie many people have no clue they can often get items much cheaper if they look past the main buy box and look at the other offers for the product.

This is true. That as SO MUCH stuff on that site other than just goods to buy it can get very confusing.

Amazon warehouse is the best, it's kind of hidden in the Amazon site, you can get returned stuff there with great prices, phones TV's etc.

Yea on one hand it's nice when selling on Amazon if you get the buy box you don't always have to be the lowest but you almost always have to be a FBA seller so it can be sold to Prime users..

On the other hand I really wonder how much more stuff would sell if the average user understood they can get stuff cheaper or even buy it used from the Amazon site.

Like right now, I have a APC power step down unit on Amazon and my listing is $200 cheaper than the seller who has the buy box. My item is brand new, but I can't get the buy box because the other guy has sold several of the units and has more inventory than I do, so Amazon's system cuts me out of the buy box even though I'm cheaper.. So basically I just have to hope some one is smart enough to understand Amazon's website or the product just sits there..

So you're Prime AND cheaper but not in the buy box? I didn't know others with more sales & inventory for priority interesting.

No the item is not prime eligible and the only option to sell it is Merchant Fulfilled. Amazon wont even let you ship it to their warehouse. Meaning this is zero advantage for the customer to buy from the other guy vs me, yet I'm $200 cheaper and he has the buy box..

I very rarely shop at Walmart stores. Amazon is just fine and handles a lot of better quality goods. I can buy Bill Blass and Calvin Kline ... Izod, Champion, Woolrich ... etc. they don't sell stuff like that as I remember at Wally world ....

Amazon is a great company but I have noticed in recent years that Prime is not always very successful, in other words The seller is made to charge a little more for the item to help Amazon cover the shipping costs along with the $10 a month or $99 annual Prime membership fees. The issue for me is that Prime 2 day is often 3,4 or even 5 business day delivery and that can be frustration if you need items in a hurry.

Another thing you may want to note about Amazon is that they piss around with prices, in some instances up to 10 times a day. What I mean by that is this, if you place a number of items in you cart or saved for later list and leave them there sometimes the price changes. For example I put a hot tub in my cart and left it there for weeks and then noticed the price starting to drop. Each day , sometimes two or three times a day the price would change. In the end I saved $800 over the original price is was going to pay.
Now I do that with all my purchases, I have a list of around 100 items that I need for my remodeling projects and by leaving them in the cart or list I am able to save huge amounts by being patient. I check the internet for competitive pricing but its rare that anyone beats Amazon.

Thats not always true, although i do agree they sell a ton of crap both online and in their stores.
I was searching for a cheap Plate Compactor and found that Amazon and Home Depot had them for around $700 plus shipping of $99.00 (they weight upwards of 300lb) Just for shits and giggles i looked at Walmart and found the same exact model for just $445.00 and free shipping to my local store. It arrived in about 5 days and they helped me load it into my truck. So sometimes you can get a bargain I should note that this low price did not show up on a Google search which is a little strange ?

In London they do a 1 hour delivery for Prime members - It has a charge but it's great for impatient people like me...

You can also get free same day with a 2 hour window......

Amazon doesn't control the prices. All those items you are buying are coming from individual sellers. Someone like me.

I might have 1 of those items or I might have 50.. Meaning if I have the buy box and sell out, then the next guy gets the buy box. On top of this other sellers are changing their prices at random times to try to get the buy box. Meaning on a competitive item the price will often change a lot.

The only time Amazon has anything to do with that is when they are selling the item themselves or they allow the manufacturers to control the buy box.

Amazon is a warehouse network and website. Most of the items on their site are not Amazon's it's other people selling them and paying Amazon a fee..

I just saw something I have not seen before on amazon prime.
A free givaway contest promotion for the seller.
Not sure why I saw it -- I am not the seller ...

I was looking at a $6.99 wall plugin 5W USB charger.

Interesting concept for promotion on Facebook, Twitter or using the Amazon site's traffic?

I might have 1 of those items or I might have 50.. Meaning if I have the buy box and sell out, then the next guy gets the buy box. On top of this other sellers are changing their prices at random times to try to get the buy box. Meaning on a competitive item the price will often change a lot.

The only time Amazon has anything to do with that is when they are selling the item themselves or they allow the manufacturers to control the buy box.

Amazon is a warehouse network and website. Most of the items on their site are not Amazon's it's other people selling them and paying Amazon a fee..
So is Amazon charging a slightly higher fee for those who have the Buy Box ?

I'm sort of amazed it's taken Walmart so long to try to go head to head with Amazon.. No Amazon Prime style fee either, just straight up free 2 day shipping if the order is over $35 bucks.

No, fees are the same it's just having the lowest price item doesn't dictate if you get the buy box or not. This is why you can often get things cheaper by looking past the buy box.

If you buy an Amazon Prime membership just for shipping you're paying too much. Personally I would rather give my money to Amazon rather than Walmart, because I think Walmart is a dickhead corporation.
