My father in law taught me something he learned in the field of Psychology in Mexico, called PAN: Padre, Adulto, Nino (father, adult, child).
Try to think about which one of those best describes your thoughts, actions and how you communicate with the people around you.
Don't be a macho father telling people what to do. Don't be a child only interested in themselves. Be an adult, who takes care of themselves. When someone says something that angers you, respond like an adult. Take the high road.
If you always do that, you won't ever be the problem, and you'll be making good decisions.
