    the US president...does it matter?

Lets say and ideal candidate rose from the masses. Somebody who is 100% legit and not corrupt in any way and does not give 2 shits about money and is a true patriot and is genuinely interested in changing stuff for the better.

    Can he do shit?

I mean the US gov is basically a corporation lobby club and the president alone can not make decisions on his own?

Can any presidential candidate honestly offer the US population "change" when he may not have the means and power to do so considering he is not the entire government?

From what I understand, a presidential candidate is not really in a position to promise anything?

A Presidents power is very limited...particularly domestically. Only Congress can make law and only congress controls the purse. A President is the one and only Commander in Chief of the military and maybe has a bit more power in the exercise of foreign policy than he has in domestic policy. A Presidential candidate can only promise to make an effort to do something.

This sums things up pretty nicely.

We tend to point fingers at the President and hold them accountable. However, is it really proper to hold Bush accountable for 9/11? Or the recession?

I wish the President had more power.

Yes he can start wars like Bush did.. Added to that a Republican Pres with a republican congress could do a lot of damage.. Look at how much shit the Bush administration fucked up when they had majorty in Congress and the WH.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

the system always makes sure both candidates are puppets that can be controlled easily by the banks and corporations which are the real leaders. Democracy is a farce and if you look at the ones who have the real power, they havent changed in the last decades.

The federal reserve top, first alan greenspan and then ben bernanke, are chairmen appointed by all presidents over the last decades. After the huge financial fuckup in 2008, the president changed but the chairman, ben bernanke, stayed. The core always stays the same no matter who is president.

The only small chance people have is Trump, he seems to be hard to control and lets hope that is true. But when someone who is so popular in polls seems hard to control, the powers that be will set everything in motion to prevent that person to run for president or become one by blackmail or assassination. It happens in every so called 'democracy', like here in the Netherlands to Pim Fortuyn. He blew up, out of control of the establishment and had a serious chance to become prime minister. Every attempt of demonizing him in the press with propaganda failed, so he got assassinated.
