***Maybe spoilers

I went on a trip to the used bookstore a coupl'a weeks ago and picked up the book, the day I got done with it I saw a preview.
I got the 1st half DL this morning and have to say, they did a good job with the silly wormy thing, and the cabin looked the way I pictured it.

It's hard to make a film from a King book, his books are fucking huge, Dreamcatcher was over 800 pages. But so far, the movie is pretty close to the book.

As a stand alone film, it's alright so far.
Yea, definately worth the DL, but that scene in the bathroom and that wormy thing with the teeth is pretty fucked up. Interesting to see Jason Lee get it so soon.

I don't think you can catch the atmosphere the movie creates on a 320x240 DivX bootleg...

Yeah, the Animatrix short films are great. The first one sucked, but the second one was jaw-dropping.

Dang, I wasn't going to waste my time with that flick but I guess I will. The GFY movie reviews are more accurate than any newspaper or magazine reviews so when GFY speaks, I listen.

Hey, don't take my word for it though. I don't wanna end up getting sued over a faulty review...

Jonesy was Damian Lewis... he was Captn Winters in Band of Brothers if you watched it (Wahlberg was in that too).

BTW.. did King do his standard 'cameo' appearance?

Ah Damian Lewis... I did not see Band of Brothers, although I had the first two DVDs rented once, never got to watch them though. Donnie was in there as well? Is the movie from the same production group or something? You know, like Tom Hanks usually uses the same people for his movies (Private Ryan, Green Mile, etc.) ...

Hmm, define what his standard 'cameo' appearance is, maybe he did but I just don't have a clue what you talk about...

It's pretty standard in almost all movies from King stories that he has some sort of bit part. It's usually only a quickie and often he doesn't even have a line.

In Rose Red on TV he was the pizza delivery guy. In Pet Cemetary, he was a minister. He's been a truck driver in something and a caretaker in another movie.

I just looked up a picture of King, and I can't really recall seeing his mug in the movie... or maybe ... was he the trucker who got his head bitten off? Who knows...

Yeah, critics like it..

- "Easily one of the most absurdly over-plotted and incoherently condensed horror movies of recent times."

- "Kasdan and co-screenwriter William Goldman clearly had no idea how to turn King's lengthy book into one coherent movie, so they decided to make several incoherent ones, hoping something will stick."

-"Everything here is so clumsily handled that the creepy sensation of dread that infuses the early moments is quickly washed away on a tide of space slime and wearying exposition."

-"Somewhere between King's novel, the screenplay by William Goldman ... and Kasdan's shooting script, both character and metaphor have gone to the dogs, leaving a slew of fart and burp jokes."

- "... a roiling mess of a story ..."

-"An unholy mess that's nonetheless full of holes...a senseless hodgepodge of genre cliches."

- "The script is a narrative septic tank, underpinned by promising psychological ideas that get lost in irrelevant subplots..."

- "Dreamcatcher is Hollywood idiocy on a staggering scale."

And it goes on and on..

I don't even bother reading the critics anymore.. I know from the getgo that Dreamcatcher isn't going to be up for any Oscars.. it's likened to "Stand By Me" meets "It" meets "The Tommyknockers" and I know I enjoyed all three. Moreso it's meant to be a bit campy.
