So they gave her a big tip just to secretly film it like self absorbed creepsters. I bet the narcissistic tipper put it on his facebook. Pretty sickening.
Tipping is a strange concept for non americans though. I mean, you might wanna tip if someones gone out of their way for you, but otherwise you think that they are just doing the job they are paid to do.
When you find out they are paid very little and you are expected to make up the wages, its a culture shock.

Apparently, in China, during the Mao years, if you tipped a server they took it as an insult.

oddly enough, tipping well in europe works even better than it does in north america
I put myself through college and backpacked through many countries with money made from working at South Beach restaurants like Pacific Time (no homo). As a 19 year old where else can you legally make so much money as an employee? I would sometimes eat at nice restaurants in France and other countries even though I was backpacking so I was comparing apples to apples due to the fact I had spent so much time in nice restaurants in Miami. What you get when you dine at at a place in European countries where tipping is not required or you just tip a little bit I would say the service was just as good if not better than the USA. What you don't get when you dine in Europe is that fucking popcorn fake god damn cheery personality that you get in the USA.
When I traveled to China last year, we gave gratuities to the guides. One I gave $300 to, she was with us the whole 2 weeks. That was their only pay. Which is why they can offer tours so cheap!
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that
Now she can afford to buy her boyfriend some good weed, new bong, and a video game

She does not look like the type that would go for a junkie BF. Not saying it is guaranteed, just strange for you to pick narcotics as the first item she would buy.

I tip everywhere I go, have for as long as I can remember. I even try to tip UPS and FedEx when they deliver packages. Restaurants it's always 20 - 25%. Used to drive my ex crazy. Non-tippers annoy me.

I am not sure which is more annoying - a guy who does not tip fedex guy or the guy who does.
If you speak about restaurants only then your sentiment is understandable, but if speaking about tipping everybody... that is much more extreme and annoying than non tipping
I remember being in the Dominican Republic and a group of us left a fairly big tip to the guy who served us and his delight was genuine and worth it alone. I can imagine the shitty wages he probably makes so it was a good feeling knowing how it made him feel, but yeah we didn'the feel the need to record it.
He actually came back outside to thank us once again before we left. A nice feeling...

The first time I went to a real English pub, it was weird you had to pay up front, probably because starving peasaunts in the 1400s would eat and jump on their tab. Then, because I had forgotten, I asked how much to tip, and the pretty counter girl said, well, sir, whatever you want to tip. I gave her 20%, she coolly accepted it, and I learned later that tipping isn't really a thing in England. They do accept American style tipping with remarkable sang froid, though. Don't seem insulted at all.

This is ridicilous. When you'd tip a guy delivering a package here, you would be seen as someone who is mentally ill, and i imagine he would be very insulted as well. The only ones who get a tip are the kids once a year who deliver papers and give you happy new year card. You'd be pulling a delivery guy down to the level of a little kid, it's degrading.
The only tips i give are at a restaurants (no more than a few euros), the pizza delivery guy to round off the amount and the kid once a year with the happy new year card.
I don't understand the tipping culture, well I understand why you would tip, however I do not understand why I *HAVE* to tip.
So many people just invent bullshit jobs and expect a tip, oh I picked up your bag when you didn't want me to, give me money, I was running around in public like an ass and you glanced in my general direction...
In AU, we tip if we feel as though the food was great or general overall experience and wait staff were great. Not because the employer pays their staff fuck all or because some ass hat just invented a job and expects a tip because they did something.
No one does anything nice for anyone, it is all self serving, you should earn a gratuity, not expect one.
The biggest one that shit me was being expected to tip bar staff when yhou just got ripped off for your drink (thank you Vegas).
