Can you overdo it where SEO is concerned?

When do you stop trying to optimize your site for a certain phrase?

I have quite a few in the top 10 but I'm wondering if I should keep pushing them and developing those keywords or now that they are in the top ten leave them alone and maybe just throw a link back here and there?

I'm worried if I keep pushing I will screw it up and have a big drop, but I'm just figuring this stuff out.

Perfect! I figured as long as it's quality content, it should be fine, but wasn't sure if there was a "too much".
