Do you know a crawler for copyright / piracy search?

We at shopmaker.com offer a ?DMCA Takedown Process? to all shops built with shopmaker technology. This process has been developed and fine-tuned over the years and one year ago became a standard (and free ;-) feature for all our shops.

Our DMCA process itself works exceptionally well. We DMCAed tens of thousands of files and not a single one was not deleted in the end. Sometimes it took several escalation steps up to the ISP or even the payment provider, but in the end every single illegally shared file was removed.

However, finding these copyright infringements in the first place is a big challenge. We rely on our shop owners to report them, if they find their content illegally distributed via message boards, forums or tube sites. And we have a home-built crawler to actively search for piracy.

We are looking for help here to improve our search capabilities. Does anybody know commercially available crawling tools that work well? We are constantly investing in our own crawler, but we are wondering if there is something out there which is better and we simply do not know it yet.

Thanks for your input. Please post here or mail us at [email protected]

That's what we thought. Therefore we are looking for help or hints here. We do not want to re-invent the wheel.

Does anybody know a crawler that is suitable to search for illegally shared files? I think the most simple crawlers just look for text, more advanced crawlers should include image recognition or something similar.

We Germans from the COPYRIGHT-POLICE think that we have developed some fairly advanced systems and escalation processes to get pirated stuff removed from the net. And this includes constant monitoring of the posts / files after successful takedowns (because sometimes the pirates re-publish them after successful takedowns). Plus, gathering of forensic evidence for potential lawsuits by content owners.

Give us a try! Drop us a mail at [email protected] and provide some links of pirated files you found yourself (link to forum post, blog post, tube URL, etc.). We will have them deleted for you to show our efficiency, free of charge.
