The song says root; if you are planning a trip, your route can be pronounced either way: "What rawt or root will you take?" with rawt being used more often around here.

But a wood rawter is different because rooter is spelled rooter.

WTF? I've never heard anybody pronounce it 'ROOTER' rhymes with 'LOOTER'. It's ROUTER rhymes with SHOUTER.

old highways were often named ROUTE, like the famous Route 66, pronounced to rhyme with BOOT.

when kids still delivered newspapers, it was called a paper route - now with that one it seemed to go both ways, some rhymed it with boot and some with shout.

By the end of the evening everyone was doing it - It's then that I realised they were all as clueless as me.....

Now I am a LOT older and say what I like - Fuck'em...

The gif debate was always easily solveable - since it's short for Graphics Interchange Format - you don't spell (or pronounce) Graphics with a J.

My wife always calls me out on my pronunciation of 'Italian'. I say it 'eye-talian' - but she insists it's 'i-talian' (i as in idiot). She's right, of course...but I intentionally mispronounce it just to irritate her.
