It sure has! Imagine how hard it would be to act when almost everything around you isn't even there.

The boy is real but everything else including the scenery is CGI?
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

Impossible to tell now... chances are they shot some of it in real locations, and some on stages. But even shooting at real locations, they would still use CG to edit or alter the scene and or to fill in the background, change things around, etc.

If you like to know how that kind of thing works, try going to Youtube and lookup "VFX Breakdown" for any movie. Usually you find cool ones like these

Which show you in a really fast and detailed way, all of the layers and CG they put into every scene.

A vast majority of movies where the CGI does the heavy lifting is shot behind green screens. If you look at some production footage of movies like the Avengers, it's predominately done in studios behind screens. I do motion graphics as a hobby, but I couldn't imagine the amount of work that goes into a motion picture like this. So many moving parts.

In this case, I would say that 90% of this movie was shot in front of a screen with wires supporting the actor, and other actors with motion tracking suits playing the parts of the CGI characters.

I normally eat these VFX breakdown vids with a spoon - but the little Marvel comic geek kid in me just refuses to look behind the curtain and ruin the fantasy with the Marvel breakdowns.
