If her beliefs are as strong as she wants others to think they are then she would resign from her job rather than violate her religious beliefs, but that doesn't appear to be an option she is considering. Hopefully the Federal Judge will give her the option of issuing the marriage license, resigning, or going to jail.

How the fuck is she not fired? Firing her would not be punishing her for her religious beliefs, it's punishing her for not doing her fucking job. I can't pick and choose which things I do and keep my job.

She will continue to defy because she loves all the attention she's getting. She'll probably write a book and travel around speaking to groups as a defender of the faith. Just think if those judges had refused to grant her divorce(s) do to their religious beliefs

Yet Atherton ordered four days of testimony from the couple?then held that their marriage wasn?t ?irrevocably broken? and denied their divorce. His justification?

The conclusion reached by this Court is that Tennesseans have been deemed by the U.S. Supreme Court to be incompetent to define and address such keystone/central institutions such as marriage, and, thereby, at minimum, contested divorces.

The high court, Atherton concluded, must explain ?when a marriage is no longer a marriage.? Until then, he contended, state courts cannot decide marriage and divorce cases.

She was elected, so this is obviously a ploy for votes, and she'll probably get re-elected despite her "criminal record." Or maybe she'll change her view of gay marriage in prison...

the issue has nothing to do with her and religion. she could have not even given an excuse for not issuing the government permits and she would have still been found in contempt of court.

Believe it or not, the position is elected. She can only be impeached and the state legislature doesn't resume until January.
