      When I first saw it I found it pretty odd myself neither of the women paid any attention to him.

          Have you ever been interviewed on camera? You don't give a fuck what's going on around you. You have laser focus because you don't want to fuck up. News crews always have a mob of people wandering around to see what's going on, you block them out and focus on the interview.
