Harvard Study Reveals What Meditation Literally Does To Gastrointestinal (Bowel) Disorders

The hits just keep on coming when it comes to the health benefits of meditation. Research is now emerging that would justify implementing this practice within hospitals and schools (some already do) as well as including it in treatment recommendations for various diseases.

Not long ago, an eight week study conducted by Harvard researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) determined that meditation literally rebuilds the brains grey matter in just eight weeks. It was the very first study to document that meditation produces changes over time in the brain?s grey matter. Now, they?ve released another study showing that meditation can have a significant impact on clinical symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The study showed that elicitation of the relaxation response (a physical state of deep rest that changes the physical and emotional responses to stress) is a very big help.

The study comes out of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). This is the very first study where the use of the ?relaxation response? was examined in these disorders, and the first to investigate the genomic effects of the relaxation response in individuals with any disorder. The report was published in the journal PLOS-ONE. (source)

Given the two studies cited above, and all of the other documented health benefits of meditation, this should open the door for more studies to examine the benefits of meditation for a wide range of diseases.

?Our results suggest exciting possibilities for further developing and implementing this treatment in a wider group of patients with gastrointestinal illness. Several studies have found that stress management techniques and other psychological interventions can help patients with IBS, at least in the short term; and while the evidence for IBD is less apparent, some studies have suggested potential benefits. What is novel about our study is demonstration of the impact of a mind/body intervention on the genes controlling inflammatory factors that are known to play a major role in IBD and possibly in IBS.? ? Brandon Kuo of the gastrointestinal unit in the MGH Department of Medicine, co-lead author of the report.

Talking the talk on vaccines | News | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

June 23, 2014 ? Recent disease outbreaks have been traced to deliberately unvaccinated Americans?and anti-vaccine sentiment is a serious health concern. Barry Bloom, an infectious diseases expert at Harvard School of Public Health, thinks health care providers need better strategies?based on solid evidence?for communicating the importance of vaccination to hesitant and skeptical parents.

What a load of misinformation, they've actually been traced to recently vaccinated people who shed the disease

Anyways, the end result is that un-vaccinated people get sick. What was the result even before the whole vaccines. You know, there were quite a lot of diseases back then.

And how in fuck people are supposing that they can avoid the actual disease if they are getting infected by weakened form of the same disease? Munching lot of vitamin-C or whatever they are trying doesn't seem to be that efferctive. This is actually a good field test to observe what happens when you are not vaccinated.

We've been here before, and we know where it goes...

                        1. Vaccines cause far worse lifelong diseases than the ones they are meant to prevent

                        2. Vaccines spread the diseases they are meant to prevent

                        3. The decline in childhood disease and improved infant mortality is due to better nutrition and sanitation, the nations which gives the most vaccines actually have the worst infant mortality rates.

                        4. Pharma push the jabs on you because they want lifelong rebills from you, once you're sick for life with autoimmune disease, you buy drugs from them for life. If the adult industry had a way of making surfers into lifelong rebillers they would be pushing it too.

                        5. I know you were just trolling anyway, but it's an important topic so I decided to provide the information in case it saves someone's life/health.

It's not so simple, Big Pharma buy people, including some people in Harvard, if a highly intelligent person is pushing dumbed-down easily debunked pro-vaxx science, it means they've been paid off.

First of all, if vaccines would cause more severe diseases than the one those are meaning to prevent, we would either be very sick or dead, and most of the population as most are vaccinated.

Vaccines are about much more than childhood diseases, but in terms on childhood diseases vaccination has played a big part. Most severe childhood diseases avoided by hygiene are diarrhea, etc., not really the ones avoided by vaccination.

Autoimmune diseases, allergies, etc. are actually more like caused by excessive hygiene (coupled with lack of parasites). For example anti-bacteria cleaning solvents aren't anymore recommended for home use. Our bodies defense mechanism needs outer threats or it will make those threats (and turns against ourselves).

Vaccination actually gives a job for our immune system, so in that term it is a good thing.
