Two people in Poland say they may have found a Nazi train rumoured to be full of gold, gems and guns that disappeared in World War Two, Polish media say.

They did the intelligent thing - They are legally entitled by the law here to 10% of the find, and for $100mil/370mil PLN they are set for life for 3 generations here. They have to pay 19% income tax on it.

If they didn't report it and had suddenly a billion dollars in gold that they couldn't buy anything with because it's untaxed money...

Exactly, that 500g of gold if it's worth $20k, you can pretty much go buy yourself a nice new tv, a laptop, and it's all quiet. How are you going to hide $100mil+? Especially if you can't actualy buy anything like property, expensive cars etc? What would you spend it on?

Right now they are in negociations. They contacted a laywer, who sent a letter to the county informing them of the find and sayign they will reveal the location for 10% finders fee. They *HAVE* to give them a 10% finders fee under law, under the condition that the fee is demanded prior to returning the found item(s).

There was another similar situation here a few years ago. My friend's dad sold an old house he had, and the new buyers started doing some renovations there - started demolishing a wall and found tons of stolen art stashed there during ww2. Also were able to keep 10% of the value.

Update for anyone that cares - this shit is all over the news here every day...

The existence of the train has been confirmed by the county where it is. It was located using some kind of underground radar imaging. They said it will be several months before the train is excavated and we find out what is in it, because it is very likely surrounded by mines and booby-trapped, and the train itself may contain harmful chemicals. Other then that, World Jewish Congress claiming the treasure likely belongs to jews. Also possible that Russia may claim any treasure as theirs.

The 10% for the finders is secure either way - if no one can prove that the treasure belongs to them the treasure becomes the property of Poland, but regardless of who's it is they are legally entitled to that 10%. The 10% wouldn't just be on the value of treasure, it's on the value of the whole find which would include the train (which in itself weighs a shit-ton i'm sure, even in scrape metal value)...
