    News Frank Gifford - dead at 84

    Most middle-aged football fans might remember Frank Gifford best for being part of one of the most famous broadcasting teams in sports history, but long before that he was one of the most versatile players the NFL has ever seen. He was a Pro Football Hall of Famer for his great career with the New York Giants.

    Gifford died Sunday morning at age 84. The family announced the news and it was reported by multiple outlets, including NBC's "Today" show, of which Gifford's wife Kathie Lee Gifford is still a co-host.

                              Readin' his Wiki entry - I never knew he was also the announcer for many of the Evel Knievel motorcycle jumps back in the 70s on Wide World of Sports.

                              I remember watchin' most of those as a kid.

                                      Hah, just a couple days ago I queued up the kneival doc on amazon, has a good overall rating, gonna watch it for sure now.

                                              Wow. Kathy Lee normally drinks a large glass of wine during her morning show (an inspiration for all alcoholic moms). She's gonna be drinking out of the bottle tomorrow!

                                                  Gifford at one time played booth ways until he was hit so hard catching a pass he missed the rest of that season and all of the next. Brutal fucking head hit back when helmets didn't protect much. He never played offense again, just defense.
