I fucking love that idea!!. Want to be a big game "hunter"? Here's an authentic-feeling gun. Go out into the wild, track your "prey" and take the "shot". You get a photo, a GPS map of the route you took and maybe a GPS map of the route the prey took too. You can identify all the clues that led you to find him, and "fire" your final "kill shot". Not only could you brag about it just as much, but the Lion or whatever gets to live another day. Brilliant!!
I'm no hunter and will never be one, but I could easily "hunt" with a photo gun. That would be fun, and I'd completely happy telling the story that doesn't end with the long torturous death of a beautiful animal.Comment

If you aim (and hit) well it does kill fast. No animal lives long with its main arteries severed. That's why arrows have arrowheads. There are also other kind of arrowheads, for example shock heads for smaller animals, but for larger animals the method is cutting the arteries. That is why they had arrowheads starting from the stone age; it is fucking impractical or even destructive (for the humans) to track animals for days. These weapons were developed for serious shit, not as toys.
Brilliant maybe, but not in any way necessary or better unless it is about endangered animal. Something has to die so that we can live. It is so about all living things. So, what is the point in not killing that particular animal (when hunting) if you anyways kill other living things countless of numbers (and so does that animal you saved)? It is maybe nice gesture to some, but that is all it is.
Conservation is conserving environment and species, not about individual animals/ living things.

Dentist is being cyber tarred and feathered. His practice in ruins, patients are bailing on him in droves. News networks today reporting on lions being an endangered species which accounts for much of the outrage. Hundreds of people protesting in front of the guy's dental office, dude is off hiding in fear of his life

Personally I have no issue with hunting, big game or otherwise, as long as it's 100% legal in every way and the so-called hunter isn't mindlessly contributing to the imminent extinction of a species.
Reports say there are "only about 34,000 lions left in the world", but no one is saying just what figure would be enough. 50 thousand lions? 100k? More? What's the non-endangered figure look like?
I don't know as the guy should lose his entire life and livelihood over this. He fucked up, may have been duped but is an idiot nonetheless, no question, and should pay in some way for it. In the end, this lion didn't have to die, it died because a guy gets pleasure from shooting animals. Is calling him out and causing him the problems he has been caused going to change the world? No. In the end he will be forgotten about in a few weeks and likely will be back at work earning more money he can spend to go kill another animal and if it isn't him it will likely be someone else.
I'm just searching for answers. What need is in him that is satisfied by killing a lion?
Also, I was trying to point out that the deaths of cows and pigs and animals that are eaten at least serve a purpose and society is, in theory, better off because of them. The death of this lion does nothing for society other than temporarily fill whatever hole in in that guy's soul.Comment

About the need. Haven't you heard about hunting? It is a need for predators, like for lion or Homo sapiens.
About the purpose: whether you look it as a way to get food/ raw materials it serves a purpose and if you look it as a hobby/ leisure it serves a purpose as does any hobby/ leisure.Comment
