anybody own or owned a nissan Maxima
i dont have the big bucks but am thinking of buying a 96' maxima... maybe 97
I was wondering if anybody have one or has driven one... I think it's an underestimaded car... goes 0-60 in less than 7... on stock and automatic... any pro's and con's about it... if not i maybe go for a grand prix gtp |

I'd go nissan over pontiac.
That being said, I used to have both a GTP and a Maxima... the maxima is a smaller car, and feels alot better when driving... Smoother and more control, the gtp is just a huge fuckin car... you may have more power, but you feel like you're driving a shermans. |

GTP's can be made to go much faster then a Maxima. (superchargers kick ass) But I guarantee a Nissan engine will far outlast a GM engine, especially a supercharged one that is begging to be bagged. |

i've never drivent any but according to what i've read, the maxima should be slightly faster, at least on acceleration, but not hell of a lot faster.
i guess the maxima is also better on gas. and durability like everybody has been saying. It is japanese |

The new maxima's have 255 hp. six speed... around 6.1 quarter, they are real fast, much faster than the gtp. Old maxima's have much lower hp tho |

I've owned two Maximas and I think they're great cars. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

A 2003 Subaru WRX does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, and a 13.9 second 1/4 mile. And this is a car designed for road/offroad racing, not racing at the track. Any car that breaks a 14.0 second 1/4 mile stock is worth a lot of respect. And that is a 4 cylinder engine in a car that doesn't cost all that much....Imagine 1000k worth of mods? You would have a car that would beat Mustangs, Camaros, and poorly driven vettes.... |

My parents used to own a Maxima when I was in high school around 1989. I loved it.

Get the Maxima. I bought my brother's 1990 for my son and finally junked it when the transmission went out after 203K miles (mostly from driving up my driveway). I would have kept it, but he was driving 120 miles RT every day and I knew it was just a matter of time....
I had a 1997 and LOVED it. It was the 185 hp, I think? It was an SE back when they made the SE suspensions tighter - not sure if they're still doing that. I traded it in for a Pathfinder because I needed the space and 4WD and hated giving it up. I rented a 2002 last year and if it wasn't so impractical for me to have it, I'd get one. Maximas are solid, fun, and if you take care of it, will last you FOREVER. They can carry a lot of people and have a decent trunk also. If you're going to buy ANY used car, do yourself a favor and have it inspected by a professional first. I was looking at used trucks last year and 4 out of 4 I test drove, ran a Carfax on, had maintenance records on, etc. 3 had been in wrecks with 2 having pretty substantial body damage and the 4th was rusting out from being in the north for 4 years ![]() |

anyone remember the black pimped out Maxima from Menace to Society?? that car was sweet!
Both those cars are pretty cool, im sure the supercharged GTP would be waay faster w/ 240 horsepower... it just comes down to how much you want to spend, and which one you like driving better! Id say the maxima most likely is way more reliable... I had a 91' thunderbird SuperCoupe in high school, fucking car was a blast, i upped the horse to 300, torque was crazy.. at like 350-370 but it was unreliable as fuck!!! the GTP is similar.. supercharged, and shit u decide dude! - personal tastes

yeah I was already leaning towards the maxima... I know for sure it's a good car. It has a lot of potential... Like the 80000$ maxima in the fast and the furious, I have to rent that again.
