A question for the Guitar Godz of GFY

    Hi all,

So I'm really into a band called Hailstorm, and I'm trying to learn one of their songs but am having a really hard time playing it and even pulling the sound apart.

Please watch this video for me

I don't understand what I am hearing exactly, and what I am hearing doesn't seem to match up with the video itself. Here's where I'm stuck:

    What I HEAR is:

Most of the song seems to be made up of 1 rhythm guitar and 1 bass player with the occasional lead guitar thrown in.

If I listen from 0:19 to 0:42 I hear 2 guitars (the 2 guys in the back). The lead singer (Lizzy) looks like she is playing but I don't hear it.

At 0:51 is the first time I hear what I think is the lead guitar, but what I hear isn't what she is playing.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what am I missing?

i am not a guitar god but i believe i can answer the question since i do know how to play the rhythm, lead and bass arrangements of this track

both guitars are mostly playing the rhythym riff, (the BsharpB& D5 chords), then the lead guitarist switches and does the quick lead riff at :51 seconds and again later throughout.

Speaking of Guitar Gods, I love the performance of Silverstun Pickups when they do live acoustic sets..

Playing starts about 2:45 into the vid

great band for sure.... I do hear 2 guitars playing the same rif ....however there could be 3-4 guitars are stacked together in the studio... awesome full sound....

Try searching songs and add the phrase "isolated guitar track" because sometimes you'll have luck.

The helpful times to watch a video will be when it's a true recording of a live performance and perhaps you want to know the players hand positions at this or that part.

Back in the day I would wear tapes out going back and playing the same parts again... computers have helped so much! You can slow shit down now, isolate it, keep the pitch correct OR alter it to suit your instrument.. hell you can even auto tune the instrument now with a click! In my day guitars were always a long walk uphill through the snow!
43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.
