People die daily from rejecting proven treatment for "natural cures". It's a lie to suggest otherwise

I also heard that a doctor in Italy cures cancer with bicarbonate of soda. I can't judge the effectiveness of these treatments because of my relative lack of scientific knowledge, but I'm skeptical, because I believe that if it wasn't pseudo-science, at least some doctors, scientists, and mainstream media would take interest. Not everyone is about "big-pharma" profit, as the conspiracy theorists appear to believe. Surely there are independent people with scientific knowledge who would assess this. Do I have too much faith in humanity?

The blanket statement that claims alternative treatments for cancer work is to not understand cancer at all. Cancer is so hard to treat because depending on where you get it you have to approach the treatment a different way.

We will have most cancers cured in the next 20-30 years, but it isnt going to be because of some magic potion from the rain forest. It is going to be because of modern medicine.

Ok, my Dad found out he has lung cancer 2 1/2 years ago at stage 4. He went through chemo and last week they said they are done with chemo because it will not do anything more for him.

You are confused. She began conventional treatment after her diagnosis AND was then cancer free. (so much for your theory about conventional treatment). Later, she had a recurrence and focused more on natural cures rather than go through the same experience again and she died as a result.

The chemo will have done a lot of damage, especially if he wasn't fasting for the days just before it, it's a lot harder to make a come back after Chemo. At that stage she realized to go down the natural route, but it's too late, the Radiotherapy and Chemo had don't their irreparable damage, she would have had to go natural from the start.

Lost my stepsister to breast cancer, my step mother to Mesothelioma "lung cancer", my mother to Myeloid leukemia.

Spent hundreds of hours in chemo and leuk wards. Chemo is a nightmare and a savior.

My mother was an OR nurse for 40 years and knew all the ins and outs of western medicine and alternative treatments. Tried both and as in most cases cancer prevails.

We will look back 20 or 30 years from now and I'm sure consider chemo barbaric.

You keep forgetting that not many people survive over 5 years with conventional treatment, for some reason you think conventional treatments actually keep people alive indefinitely, Chemo and Radiotherapy are both clear failures

That belief which he holds, is a coping mechanism for himself. It is how he rationalizes the constant chatter in his brain of paranoia and anxiety and fear and the resulting delusions which he uses to rationalize it all.

After all, how would it look to someone who truly believes and understands in their own mind that everyone with money or power is out to get him all the time? A clue to how severe his problem is can be found not in just what he says, or the fact that he lines up fully behind any conspiracy theory that demonstrates authority/power is evil, bad and wrong and manipulating the masses and only he "see's it"... but really it is about incredible amount of time he spends researching such a massive array of completed disconnected conspiracy theories. He has this chatter in his mind that is ceaseless. I'ts 24/7. It's random and all over the place. His manic searching for studies is an attempt to attach an idea to a feeling of paranoia and anxiety to rationalize it and quiet it. But the chatter doesn't go away and the very simple explanation is that his fight or flight system has broken down and because of how the biochemistry and signaling process works, when it starts misfiring - causing anxiety, panic, fear etc, it continues to spiral out of control.

I think he is possible that he's schizophrenic and that like most schizophrenics, he is fully aware of this fact or at least aware that something is seriously wrong in his interpretation of the world around him.

Then you start to see that its not just "misunderstanding" the facts, that its full blown delusion.
