    Anyone REALLY into naked and afraid?

    I love the show so much I want to survive in my back yard for months!

    j/k... only like 7 days. But I love the show, I critique the people on the show and actually think I am a better survivalist then the majority.

    I watched an episode today where the people were on a tropical island with lots of coconuts. The survivalists did not cut any of those coconuts in half and fill with the abundance of water and stick a big hot rock in it. They initially used bamboo sticks to fill water with and dropped tiny little hot rocks into the stick the first day. They decided that rocks couldn't purify the water.

    The god damn rocks were TOO SMALL. The body of water too big and didn't work. I was yelling at my TV to tell these ning cum poops to use the god damn rotten coconut shells to put water into and boil it with a large hot rock. They got a fire first night... props.

    Anyone else REALLY get into a show and want to just reach into the damn tv and smack the shit out of whoever is inside?

    I honestly think I could survive naked and afraid with at least 2 naked women by my side.

                  When it first aired I thought it was stupid but after the first few shows now I love it. I am like the OP, even with my medical issues I think I could do it no I KNOW I can do it. Doubt they would let my fat ass do it though. I would gross America out and anyone else that watched the show. LOL

                                  Is this show is still in air? I did set my IPTV receiver to record it, but I don't see any new episodes for a long time. Which exactly channel shows it? I know it's Discovery, but I have a few various Discovery channels in my TV packet...

                                          Never heard of it. Must be on one of those high-up channels I don't watch but I'll go do a search for it. I loved the Doomsday Preppers series, might like this as well. Sounds different but kind of related in a survivalist way.

                                              A good way to see them is youtube. Just have to search to get the free ones as they try to ppv the episodes as well.

                                              What I have learned is the two tools to have is firestarter and knife. Many have suffered because of hard time getting fire started.

                                              Coconut shell and large rock is best way to purify water in tropics. Digging a hole by water source and letting soil filter also works.

                                              Most of the people who hunted with spears typically found food. Traps typically don't work for them except the guy who caught rats.

                                              I would make a regular spear and a four pronged spear. Carry them both as well as knife. For example, the girl in the show I mentiones in op had opportunity to spear small sharks. Her four pronged spear didn't break their skin, she needed a regular spear.

                                              Also valuable info is to make a sloped roof for shelter if it rains alot. Flat roofs let too much water in.

                                                  Another way to purify water both quickly and efficiently is to fold leaves into two layers and put charcoal found in the remains of any fire between the layers, shape it all conically and then pour water through it into a container and voila. Charcoal-filtered water.

                                                  This was demonstrated on an episode of Doomsday Preppers. Of course... you have to know how to start a fire and fold leaves. :D

                                                      I saw that done on the show, not exactly like you said. They used sand, and found some burnt drift wood, stuck it in bamboo, somehow plugged the bottom so sand didn't fall out but water did, then ran water through it.

                                                      To be honest though, I see show after show where they cannot get the fire started for days. Boiling water is just the easiest to do. So if you suck at rubbing sticks together, bring a fire starter. Find something that will catch easy, a birds next, tree scrapings, anything that will ignite with a spark.

                                                      Get the fire started, boil the water. You can even put water in bamboo and stick the bamboo in the fire and boil it.

                                                      To be dehydrated, when you already have a fire and close water source, is ridiculous.

                                                      See below. Keep in mind they have some fallen coconuts which are rotten (can't eat), they have a fire, and they have a water source very close to camp. No, they decide to lick water off the rocks instead.. lol


                                                      Edit: The guy chopped an entire coconut tree and they were not ripe so couldn't eat them either. But they sure could have used them as water container.

                                                          I also really like this show for some reason lol if you like this there is a new series that started this week called alone on the history channel. Now some of those people were truly afraid. I have only seen one episode but ill probably watch more.

                                                                      Love the show. I think I could do it as I love camping out in the middle of nowhere so I do have some bushcraft skills.

                                                                      The 2 issues I think I would have are,

                                                                      1. Mosquitos in some of those jungles are just fucking nasty. Where I camp I get really bad mosquitos and im guessing the jungles are worse. Without bug spray I think it would really start to fuck with your head after a while. While mud would help, it wouldn't completely stop them. If you couldn't find a termites nest to burn you would be fucked.

                                                                      2. Fire - I have started fire by hand before and even under the best conditions it's not easy. Some of the climates they are in where it is 100 degrees with 90% humidity, I think you could spend days trying to get a fire going with no success. It would really suck to spend nights in the jungle with it completely dark, especially when there are big cats and creepy crawlies around.

                                                                          Naked and Afraid Season 2 Episode 1 is in the Amazon. It was the mosquitos that caused the first couple to tap out. If you watch the whole show you will see the next couple do it and succeed.

                                                                          Keep looking for a new campsite if the first one sucks. Bodies of water on both sides of campsite is a bad idea when lots of mosquitos exist (or alligators). That was also the episode that talked about sloped roof instead of flat roof for rain protection.

                                                                                                                      Keep in mind that was the first day. The rest of the time the two were completely dehydrated. Their are coconut shells they could have put the water in, and dropped like a 5 inch diameter rock into it and would have purified the water in a few seconds.

                                                                                                                      No, after they failed to boil water with tiny rocks, they would wait for rain storms and lick puddles off of rocks. It's craziness. The guy did not make it the 21 days and the girl barely did. They were dehydrated the entire time.

It was also very well-demonstrated in the movie All is Lost where Redford's character uses sea water, a container, plastic, and the sun to condense fresh water. It works, and in extreme times it's a hell of a lot more attractive an alternative than what some people have done, which is actually drink the piss.

                                                                                                                              This show is not putting the people in places where they can't find food or water. Some places seem a lot more extreme then others, but the episode I was yelling at my TV about I would have been on an adventure with plenty of water and likely much more food.

                                                                                                                              Crabs on beach, snails on beach, coconuts, fish to spear, and a huge source for drinking water that the two couldn't figure out how to treat. Because of this, they had no energy to get food.

                                                                                                                              The girl actually hit a shark with her spear, just didn't break the skin. If she simply had a real spear with one point, she would have gotten a huge meal. The flanked out spears with multiple points are good for smaller critters, like crabs or frogs.

                                                                                                                              Well, I'm repeating myself over about the same issues. My point still stands, I think a lot of these "selected" "survivalists" really suck, I could do better.

                                                                                                                              The guy who trapped rats in his cave, he was always hydrated and always eating. He only lost 6 pounds the entire 21 days. Average seems to be around 15 to 20 pounds for the guys, some even up to 40 pounds lost.

                                                                                                                                  Okay my pvr just snagged an old rerun of this last night, watched it this morning. Series looks good, I'll definitely keep watching and have now set pvr to grab all new and old episodes.

                                                                                                                                  The one I caught was called "Jungle Love" (2014) --- where an experienced hunter/tracker/trapper from Florida was paired with a rather hot vegetarian hippie chick from Mesa Arizona. Due to their easy-going natures and willingness to listen to each others' ideas they worked well together, and they ended up going the full 21 days.

                                                                                                                                  But this episode proved something I've been saying for years, that being vegans/vegetarians are fine eating that way when living in a food-plentiful environment (like home, in the city, close to a supermarket, etc). But put them into an extreme survival situation and in no time flat their lack of caloric intake will either force them to eat meat or they'll die. And that is exactly what happened here.

                                                                                                                                  Good thing (for her) that she wasn't one of the more annoying vegetarians who aren't satisfied with their choice for themselves but must be vocally critical of all those around them who don't share their values. Also good thing for her that she had HIM around to catch some actual protein, and sure enough by roughly day 18 give or take she realized her body was shutting down and she did the right thing, she ATE. It was only a small lizard, comparable in calories and protein to a single Chicken McNugget, but she ate it, and *what a surprise*... she felt better afterwards.

                                                                                                                                  On the other side of it his hunting skills from his home in Florida did not transfer all that well into the jungle. He was only able to find small to tiny game --- snails, a worm, that small lizard, and one snake (which she wouldn't eat). He tried going after something bigger with zero success.

                                                                                                                                  On the nudity/sex side, he had a girlfriend back home, she was single. They did cuddle naked for warmth at night but somehow managed to not get it on. (that we know of)

                                                                                                                                  Good episode though. She may be the first vegetarian woman I've ever seen that I think I could manage to get along with well enough to have a relationship with. But I'm sorry, I'm not giving up my steak... chicken.... fish.... RIBSSSSsss baby. RIBSSssssss.

                                                                                                                                  If I had showed up in their little camp on day 19 with a platter of steaming ribs and skewers of chicken and ribs all char-broiled and slathered in bbq sauce the BOTH of them would have gorged themselves, her veggie values all but forgotten. :D

                                                                                                                                  I'll definitely keep watching. No doubt there are episodes where the two aren't as compatible and end up despising each other.

                                                                                                                                      Not always. In certain situations, and assuming you have the implements or can jury-rig other things to work this way, it's actually a FIRST resort.

                                                                                                                                      Like if you're at sea, or in the dessert for example, where you have no fresh water or wood around. In such instances it's a relatively easy tactic that can save your life.

                                                                                                                                      It's one of those simple techniques that when most people see it done for the first time they marvel at how "ingenious" it seems.

                                                                                                                                      Watch that movie I put in quotes, All Is Lost (2013) - IMDb , it's not the greatest survival flick out there, it's full of frustrating things the guy did (or didn't do) while foundering on the Indian Ocean, but for me the way he found a way to get fresh water was pretty great.

                                                                                                                                              Yeah, looks like that condensation method may be good for about 6 ounces a day. It could save your life.

                                                                                                                                              What I got out of it the most was carry at least 100 flares when in the middle of the ocean and only burn your last life boat if the other boat is NOT a cargo boat.

Now kinda bored of it as they inject drama to fit the reality TV bill. If the chick is hot might watch if not I hit delete from the DVR as already know how each episode pans out... Terrible survival skills, nothing at all was interesting. They made traps and they rarely work, not one spear. The guy got some weird skin rash from a weird tree, I don't think they ate anything but coconuts.

                                                                                                                                                                              I would give the guy a psr of 0 because he had medic come in 2 times and would give the girl a psr of maybe 2 because she didn't get weird sap on her. They both sucked extremely hard.

                                                                                                                                                                                  The latest new episode I just grabbed on the pvr was just a rehashing of half a dozen past episodes. I deleted it. I'll be recording those reruns hopefully at some point and will watch them then.

                                                                                                                                                                                  As to the movie "All is Lost", you nailed it about the flares. A lot of other stupid crap was done in that movie as well, leaving a lot of viewers with huge questions as to why a supposedly experienced sailor/ocean-goer would stray so far from port (or land for that matter) without truly having the proper skills and equipment at his disposal.

                                                                                                                                                                                  He had to learn how to use a sextant for crying out loud. He did so, but... really?

                                                                                                                                                                                  It's a cautionary tale about how a series of really dumb decisions coupled with a smattering of bad luck here or there can really put you in a bad way. :D

                                                                                                                                                                                          @cdsmith the one thing I liked about how robert redford played the character is that he did act in a logical manner with each issue. I didn't understand what he was doing sometimes and can't even begin to understand how the boat would capsize then flip back over.

                                                                                                                                                                                          One of the dumbest was filling the 5 gallon with fresh water and leaving the air hole open to fill up with sea water.

                                                                                                                                                                                          That is a movie though (likely based on a true story).

                                                                                                                                                                                          What I like about naked afraid is I can relate to the situations. I can relate simply because I like outdoors and like camping a lot, but I see some things that really make me go ummm. Why in the works did ya go and do that type of thing?
