I agree with you there Playa, did basic and AIT there, started in the summer left in the winter, which was cold as shit.

Rochard 03-17-2003 11:39 PM

I see Tanker Spanker mentioned me above..... Four years, USMC.

I still have a USMC flag on my wall directly behind me in my office.

i thought the Javellin was a anti-tank weapon,
Fuck no... it auto denates if gets too close to the ground, LOL. If I remember, arrgg, you don't have control of the damn thing for the first 1/2 mile, then it's hot. My old group are no longer using it... they are back on the guns.

Would like to do a tour of Texas, meet up with a few friends on the way ;)

sextoyking 03-17-2003 11:44 PM

Tev,

I hear you there. I got to basic in the Beg of July, and left in Nov.

It was hot as shit at Ft. Sill in the summer and a cold one in the winter.

People were cool, but being from the NW, I didn't understand churches on every block :)

You guys remember reforger from germany days??

We had the whole nato world there, it was a blast.

fucking 24-48 hours straight on the hows, no downtime really, shells were going off like it was the 4th of july. Our battery had it's shit together, well except for everyone was high all the time:)

whoa, thank goodness the stinger didn't have that,
fire and forget its a damn near flawless weapon with a 98% kill rate,

most of those kill stats are from the Afghans fighting the russians those fuckers were jumping off camels and shooting the stinger from the hip, i kid you not,, it was a training video

the only air defense gun we use to use was the vulcan, now that was a kick ass gun

DJRCyberAVS 03-17-2003 11:57 PM

Hey Playa...

LOL... just to make it nice and confusing... there are two types Javelin missiles... you are right mate, there is an anti-tank one made by your guys.... but our group never saw that.

This is the one we used under s-a-m's

http://www.jed.simonides.org/missiles/sam/sam.html

Never heard of the vulcan mate.... as we only used to play at being soldiers, some of us were slightly uneducated in the use of weaponery :winkwink:

Better page for you...

the vulcan was a special gatling gun,, that thing can shoot
100 rounds per second, sounds like a huge fart

it was outclassed to shoot aircraft unless the pilot fell asleep :)
so they had to decommission it back in 94, still was a kick ass ground weapon. i seen it literally mow down the top of a tree line and put fire onto a whole country side

they still had a stinger missile in the back you can see the missle
case

Now I know being a marines wife at one time accounts for something. Considering all the times they're jerked out of life and taken away.

NETBilling-Andy 03-18-2003 07:55 AM

A few of us here at CCBill served in the first gulf war as well. 13 bravo unit from Germany. 1st infantry div. Much respect for all those on the board who have served for their respective countries.

Tev 03-18-2003 08:52 AM

Sextoyking,

Hell yeah I remember reforger, and grafenwoer(sp) and all those little mud wholes we spent our lives training in. I did like reforger and being able to trade c-rats with other armies dumb enough to take the trade for their better stuff. MRE's didn't come into the service until I think the latter half of my hitch. Same as BDU's they came I think about 6 mos after I got to Germany. I was pissed cause I had to replace all my uniforms all at once!

Where were you stationed in Germany? I was at Bad Kissingen.

Minte 03-18-2003 09:01 AM

I served in the US Army from 1973-1976

princess 03-18-2003 10:44 AM

It's amazing tons here are veterans.

A big thanks is in order. =)

Nina 03-18-2003 10:53 AM

US Army, 3 years, Watercraft Engineer.

Jeffne 03-18-2003 12:18 PM

Served over in Germany from 1988 to 1991..Kitzigen, Wurzberg, and Garmisch ( I know, lucky bastard).

Tev, you had to bring up Graf and MRE's didn't you. Actually, Graf was fun at times.

Sextoyking, yes, I do remember Reforger, it was definitely an experience working with troops from other countries.

I am also a proud Desert Storm Vet. Watching the news the other day, CNN was showing a clip of some troops boarding a plane heading over to Saudi. It really brought back some memories. In my opinion, I think it's a more difficult time for the families involved. The unknown can drive anyone crazy. I always knew my situation and dealt with in accordingly. The families and love ones are constantly wondering what is going on. Must be tough.

I went to a school down in the valley from Garmisch, in the 60's, I got one of my article 15's at that school, the commander hated Airborne. He told me he would have put me in Jail if he could have.:1orglaugh god I had some fun.

Tev,
Never had to eat C-rats..sounds pretty bad. MRE's were bad enough but fortunately some of them came with a little bottle of Louisiana Sauce and believe me, i used the whole bottle :)

Jimmyf,
I hope you got in some good skiing in Garmisch before you received your A-15. Btw, did you get a couple of A-15's while you were in, if so, the second one must of sucked. If I do recall I believe that would constitute 60 days extra duty... Damn!
