    Former Speaker of the House indited for paying bribes

    Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert facing federal charges - CBS News

    Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert has been indicted on federal charges for trying to hide close to $1 million in bank withdrawals and lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.


    Someone was extorting him to the tune of 3.5 million dollars for crimes he committed as Speaker of the House. Seems he's been paying this 'un-named" person bribes to keep his mouth shut for several years.

    He was indited for trying to hide the withdraws from the IRS and lying about it to federal investigators. This should be interesting when it blows up and we find out why he was paying the blackmail.

                                                  The person who blackmailed him was someone who has known him for pretty much his or her entire life and was blackmailing him for an incident that happened many years ago.

                                                      On CNN last night they mentioned he was a wrestling coach, and that the other person involved in this case is someone he knew "most of his life" and was from the town he was a coach in.

                                                                                                  He's a very powerful, well connected man. There have been no accusations set foward by anyone (no doubt there will be now thankfully) but until then any news organization that labels him a pedo or molester will be liable

                                                                                                  Also, I read in an article that age of consent in Illinois is 17, if his victim was 17 it could be a grey area. They said there were so many rumors in his town of multiple offenses by him back in the day that that's the reason he never got elected in his own district. I dunno. Creepy as fuck and so typical.

                                                                                                              As I'm a straight man, you might say say I have no right to comment, but I have so many true friends who are gay, and I have acquaintances who imagine that they're closeted. Not a justification, just context.

                                                                                                              Hard or not - push the envelope, seize the day. Do something to make yourself more free every day. Above all do NOT enable those who are telling you you're inherently "bad" regardless of what is offered.

                                                                                                              I know it must be difficult sometimes for you with a child. Much respect (as if anonymous internet respect on an adult webmaster board mattered :-) ... ) for doing what you need to do to be a good parent.

                                                                                                              From what I've seen though, many of the most aggressive anti-gay folks are struggling with their own sexuality. I'm not alone in that observation.
