So I'm betting on a fine and two games tops exactly because it's Brady. Anyone else they'd be out many more games.

i suppose. it seems to me owners would deal with other owners on matters like this. it's a close-knit small group, there's nothing in it for any of them to have this sort of public drama.

I would be shocked if they suspend him for more than a few games because they will want to send a message that cheating won't tolerated and that will quiet some of the Brady haters, but, like you said, he is a marquee player so they won't risk benching him for too long.

but there is no need for the NFL to prove nobody is off limits. that's completly counter to how they have conducted themselves.

i agree that the nfl is embarrassing to pro football.

If they want to clean up their image, they could start by not drafting gangbangers into the league

I am surprised by all of this... I don't know much about professional football, but I just assumed that all of the footballs were maintained by the referees. I thought this was the case for all professional sports.

And in Canada, which counts as half a state.

so 49 1/2 states.

Footballs are maintained by the home team...but they are given to the refs for inspection prior to the game.

the important thing here is it's gonna suck extra hard being a Pats fan going forward. they will always be the underdog in any verbal tussling they get into with other team's fans . even when they are winning, which they most certainly will continue doing. yeah, well, your team's a cheater, that's why they're winning.

Refs were paid most likely

The teams select the footballs they want to use during the game then give them to the refs for inspection. The refs then give them back to the teams shortly before kickoff. It is during that small window of time after the inspection and before the game starts that they were deflated. You would think once the teams gave the balls to the refs they would inspect them, approve them, then keep them to make sure they weren't tampered with.

Not, then it can't be much of an advantage it would seem (though it may be illegal)

I really don't know how much of an advantage it could be, but even it is a minor advantage that helps them complete an extra pass or two that they might not have with a regularly inflated ball that could be enough to change the outcome of the game.

It's official; 4 games and a 1 million dollar fine.
