The math doesn't care what it looks like. You can, as a matter of fact, pay less for a burger today than we did in the early 70's when adjusted for inflation. McDonald's problem is not menu price. It's menu glut. They are burgers and fries, not salads and sliced fucking fruit.
Can McDonald's Survive?

Maybe stick to 1 meal instead of 3 next time lolActually, this thread inspired me to go to McDonald's for breakfast this morning. Two McGriddles, pancakes with sausage, 2 hash browns and some of their "coffee" (iced for max effect).
Results?
I feel like puking right NOW and am terrified of what will eventually ooze out my asshole after winding its way through my poor intestines and colon.
JESUS why did I do such a thing??? McGriddles were tasty (I'm a sucker for anything maple-flavored). Pancakes were....maple-y (good) but......meh. Hash browns were good tho greasy and the "coffee"? Well, it wasn't Starbucks (or even Dunkin' Donuts) but drinkable.
OK well my digestive system says THANKS GFY. I am guessing McDonald's will be out of business before I try that again. LOLSupComment

The big thing here is that America is not the only place that has McD. They will survive but not as the mega place we know.PornGuy skype me pornguy_epic

In my opinion...Fast Food is pricing itself out of existence.
McDonald's used to be the place I went to for a 40 cent hamburger, 25 cent fries, and a 25 cent drink.
Now you're lucky to get a combo meal there for less than $6
Fast food was always supposed to be cheap.
Hell, just a few years back I would go to Arbys and get 5 roast beef sandwiches for $5.
I went there 2 days ago and ordered food for 3 people.
The cost? $31 !!!!
They have raised prices on everything so fast and so high that it's taking them out of their market.
Especially sodas.
When fast food joints are charging $3 for 10 cents worth of soda...people on a budget just can't afford that.
And face it...most "rich" people don't eat fast food.
A lot of McDonald's customer base were people who don't have a lot of extra money and would grab lunch there on lunch break because it was fast and cheap.
No, I don't think it's the "nutritional value" that is hurting them. Most guys who work "real" jobs don't give a fuck about that. The majority of guys working real jobs love to eat wings and drink beer.
McDonalds 1/4 pounder with cheese is "health food" to them. lol
No...I think it's the price.
Why pay that much for crappy fast food when you can basically go to a half decent diner like Dennys or a local family owned restaurant and get much better quality food for the same price.-Robbie

The key to cheap at McDonalds is stick to the $1 menu. You can get 3 McDoubles and have a bigger burger than their pricey burgers like the quarter pounder etc. $5 on the value menu and you are stuffed. But if you go for any of their combos, you are paying way more now.XXXRewards - Karups - Boyfun - Jawked. Paying on time since 1997. Contact me at brent [at] xxxrewards.comComment

I love A&W stands! How much does it cost where you are at? A few months ago our local one opened back up (it's closed during winter). There was 3 of us and it cost $31! 7 Spanish hot dogs and 2 orders of cheese fries. Needless to say I won't be going back. I'm not that broke that I can't afford it but those hot dogs are not worth that much
MCDs isn't going anywhere in our lifetime. Sure they might not be having record profits but that is why they make changes to try new ways to make money.Comment

the mcdoubles aren't $1 anymore. They are like $1.50 but yup that's the best value. Once a week when I get groceries I'll stop off at mcds and either get 2 mcdoubles or 2 bacon mcdoubles and a small dr pepper (just enough to wash it down). Cost me $3.83 or $5.35Comment

Big Mac, 2 double cheeseburgers and a large fries is my usual maccy d order (£7/$11), used to have that once a week (went through a phase of more than that but my asshole wasn't very grateful) then once a month, then every couple of months until last time I went it took 10 minutes for them to bring my order out while I sat there bored shitless in the car park, so I pulled links and blacklisted them. A maccy's once in a while ain'y gonna hurt anybody though

Agreed but I think the problem is simply the whole stigma attached to the name "McDonalds". It's just for so long been synonymous with "cheap addicting fast food that is causing obesity". Should have done something about that a long time ago but probably too late. You never know though..McDonalds has responded to rising health concerns in the last 2 decades by lurching around, changing products, changing menus, changing marketing campaigns, stopped aggressively marketing to kids etc etc etc.
Most importantly, what used to be a treat is now something that for the most part, you'd be ridiculed for, had you admitted to eating there. It is has been a growing symbol of obesity and shame in America. Not the hamburger... but McDonalds itself. Thats nearly impossible to undo.
From a business standpoint, they have became increasingly unfocused over the years and continue to be even more unfocused going forward. They've pretty much destroyed their identity in the last 2 decades. Like any public company, the pressure of meeting stockholder expectations with short term fixes has not kept pace with a couple decades of a changing culture. I don't see them having much of a future and I am not surprised that each new quarter is showing more and more signs of struggling. Successful businesses do exactly what they've done. They remain fanatically focused, execute flawlessly over and over and over again.. then once they've reached a certain saturation point, growth slows and stagnates and then they start lurching around trying to leverage the "power of the brand" to try new things and this always comes at the direct cost of the thing that got them there. They remind me of dunkin donuts.... now with breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, coffee etc etc etc... and have left behind the very thing that got them where they are to begin with and total failure is imminent. In the business world, it tends to take time, but their impending failure, without refocusing on their core business, is certain.
Also somewhat ironically I think the recession has hurt them in the sense that there seems to be many many more other options whether large operation or small at the same price point and better food and/or service.Comment

McDonald's owned a majority stake in Chipotle when it had just 16 restaraunt. It helped build Chipotle up to 500 locations then completed divested from them in 2006 Their initial investment of $360,000,000 allowed them to take out $1.5billion when they divestedAgreed but I think the problem is simply the whole stigma attached to the name "McDonalds". They also owned Boston Market and divested in them in 2006 as well so they could focus only on the McDonalds brand.Comment

here a&w is a restaurant much like mcdonalds. its not a stand. anyways, for 2 teen burger combos its something like 16-18 bucks. not quite as cheap as mcdonalds but it tastes better. i don't know if they still do it but they used to serve your root beer in a frosted glass mug. the a&w root beer is the only time i'll drink pop.I love A&W stands!
