Think the point being missed here is the chick was held at gun point while doing her shit minimum wage job.

If that was my restaurant I would say fuck the $400 bucks and thank her for co-operating and not getting herself or anyone else shot.

I would give her a fucking week off with pay too to relax.

Wonder what would have happened if she told the guy there was only $50 bucks in the till.

When purps think you will only have $100 in the registers they don't want to rob you. If they know your managers suck on the weekends and often leave $400 in them they will rob you more often.

I used to be a manager at a Stater Bros.

As usual a few guys come in act like they know everything.... and now it's my turn!

We don't know their exact cash drop policy, but lets assume she is supposed to drop anything in excess of 100 bucks into the safe. The article says the restaurant was unusually busy, but nobody stops to think how that can legitimately affect that task? How are you counting the cash drawers and depositing money when the cashier area is unusually busy? You're not! You're waiting until there is a lull where you can run and take a piss (and maybe puke from pregnancy sickness?) and then do your deposit and other shit that got behind because it was unusually busy.

Unless or until we know more about the whole thing, it's impossible to speculate. We don't know if she had a bad work history, or if this was a set up to fire her before maternity leave, or a million other things! So why assume she failed at her job after she was robbed at gunpoint and talked to the press? wtf. gfy.

The policy isn't to save corporations money. It's to make the store safer for employees. The busier the store is the more attractive it is to robbers that know lax management will have too much money on hand. 25% of the time I'm in a convenience store one of the employees is either making a cash drop or removing rolled coins from a timed safe dispenser.

This policy also stops insider robbery schemes. To give someone the benefit of doubt just because they were busy is poor upper management. Safety precautions are most needed when busy. If she wasn't pregnant this would be a non-story. So in effect she want's special treatment, waiver of safety polices, because she's pregnant? Less time on her feet, more bathroom breaks, etc is one type of concession, safety is another.

Fast forward to two weeks from now when a different employee makes the same mistake how do you deal with this person without discriminating?

As far as "knowing everything" I once owned retail stores, some taking in a lot of cash. Damn right we had safety policies and it wasn't because the money wasn't insured. It was because the insurance companies and common sense demanded it.

                .

HOWEVER; telling her to pay back the money or lose her job is a pitiful thing for upper management to do. Firing her is one thing. Offering her a chance to keep her job if she pays back the money shows a total lack of professionalism, grasp of the overall situation and why the policy was in effect in the first place.

Yeah I said some people know everything, then jumped in to take my turn at knowing everything. Kind of a little joke there.

So lets take this to a mythbusters extreme. It never reaches a volume where you have to let the cash drop wait a moment? 100, 100, 100, 100 there, 4 customers just handed you 400 dollars and there are 19 more people in line waving money at you.

Look, I managed retail for a decade before adult so I don't need any refresher courses. We should be talking about common sense here because we know no details! Sly pointed it out in like the third comment. L-Pink you talk about not assuming she was busy, and then seem to be full of confidence as you presume that this is only a "thing" because she's pregnant. OK then, but it's hard to take seriously.

Come on man, if she wasn't pregnant not one news outlet would have run the story.

And when you're located in areas where most Popeye's are located you better drop your cash when busy, lol.

She's been offered her job back at Popeye's. She's been offered 2K in back pay. Popeye's Corporate got involved to "rectify" the situation due to the negative publicity backlash.

I was going to say something to that effect. I've been to one, and it was pretty good as I recall. But the rest I have seen are in areas I would prefer not to leave my car unattended.
