Best way to target new verticals is to test an Affiliate Network.

Affiliate Program - an affiliate program offering either 1 site or a group of sites in the same vertical. Example: AdultFriendFinder.com has only dating sites in their program. You signup to their single affiliate program and promote only what they have.

Affiliate Network - a super affiliate that is signed up to TONS of affiliate programs with a volume payout rate. You send traffic through their links and piggy back on their high payout. The admin area lists THOUSANDS of sites you can promote. Both mainstream & adult under 1 roof.

Advantages to promoting an Affiliate Network instead of going direct:

1. 1 check / wire. No need to check 20 affiliate programs for payout.

2. Easier to test completely different offers since all your links are in 1 place. Also nothing worse that testing something and only earning $40 with a minimum $50 payout. And having 10 different affiliate programs like that with $400 sitting out there you can't get unless you promote more at a loss. Instead if you test under an affiliate network you have all 10 tests under 1 roof and qualify for minimum payouts easier. In my example you'd have all $400 under the single affiliate network.

3. Exclusive offers / rates - big networks get custom deals that average affiliates can't get. Like exclusive white labels or volume rates.

A great strategy is to first test on an affiliate network and once you find something that works, THEN you may want to check if you can get a higher rate direct. And sometimes even direct you won't qualify for the volume payout you're getting from the network.

Nutshell - if you're wading into mainstream start off on an affiliate network because you'll have a bigger variety of things to test without a need to chase down 20 payments.
