yeah but watched it again after reading the news story - cops were outnumbered by an entire family of violent inbred losers, and were fortunate that 3 brave citizens waded in to even things up. cops should have started firing earlier, or should have stepped/run back from the family and told them get on the ground, hands on head, one move towards us and we'll shoot.

I don't get it, there didn't happen anything until the cops came, at least in the video. Maybe the police could have started the situation a tad better?
If you watch local police tv, they usually ask in situation like that "What is the problem in here?" Even if they know the problem. That is communication and taking contact to the folks (other than physical). In the video the police rushed to scene and started giving commands. No fucking situation assessment whatsoever.

there's some kind of confrontation going on between the family and some other people, the cops weren't called for no reason, two of the sons had blocked the womens bathroom in the Walmart while their mother was in it when a female Walmart employee tried to get in to use it as well. It looks like a squabble with other people from the store continued out to their vehicle, but didn't look like much of an event until the cops pull up - cops get out of their vehicle and approach the crowd with the lead cop saying something like 'We need to separate you folks and talk to you', which is reasonable, a cop says something you listen and do it but the father warns the cop 'You're not seperating me from my family'. The cops approach closer and then are totally swarmed by these crazy fuckers.
Can't really fault the cops, what were they supposed to do when the father says 'You're not going to separate me from my family?'. Possible the cops could have been more patient and tried to find out more about the issues and how fucking weird the family is and the fight not happened but as a cop you can't just let people decide what they'll do when you ask them, normal people know when a cop tells you to do something you do it.
So are the cops just supposed to say 'oh sorry, you're obviously crazy, feel free to take control of bathrooms any time you want, because your family is crazy and we sure don't want anybody to get killed just because ya'll are crazy fuckers so we'll be on our way now'I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. Yes, people should do what the cops tell, everybody just keeps repeating that, but just giving commands is not the best way even in army. As can be seen in all these cases. Should, should and should, but they don't. Maybe police could adapt a little bit to match their practices to reality. Army has already done so, there is much about morale. Commanders have long time ago understood that just giving orders isn't that effective, even though soldiers should obey orders under all circumstances, but they don't, that is the reality. Thus there is much focus to improve morale. Army understands that "should, should and should" isn't that effective alone.
Police should have assessed the situation better. There weren't that much going on when they arrived, and it is the situation for them. You say that maybe police should have been more patient, find out more. More patient and find out more? The police didn't stop even for a half second until just rushing in and giving commands. There isn't anything to what to add more. First of all, police doesn't know that is the information they have got accurate. So, this "called in for a reason", the police doesn't know that is there a reason or not. They have just been told so. They should assess the situation themselves.
Now they just went there "We need to separate you folks and talk to you." Not very good way to make contact to people. How about "Hello, what is the problem in here?"
Police should adapt to the situation and use people skills. And as I said something about that should isn't alone enough; police command should give more training to police regarding this issue and extra command, police understands commands, right?
