That would be so cool. Have fun. Thank you for protecting me. Bring me back something from Baghdad. If you come back that is.

aka, I got the letter yesterday, jackass.

And in case you're really stupid, it wasn't actually a draft notice, just a friendly reminder that they know where I live and have assigned me a number if they should decide to draft people.

Saturday is a mail day in the USA. They talked about stopping Saturday mail, but it didn't fly. So, yes, on Saturday.

Ok...I never knew that...I don't think we've ever had Sat. mail in Canada, at least not the past decade or so.

In fact we had mail on Staurday morning, till the mid 60's . Also, mail was delivered twice a weekday before that date.

Amazing, mail in the morning, mail in the afternoon...

That was before faxes, emails,. FedEx, etc...

Mail can and will also be delivered on Sundays and Holidays if you use some of the US Postal Services "Next Day" air services.

When I used to do a lot of eBay sales I was mailing out packages that were being delivered on Christmas day....go figure.

But I thought you were gay. Just walk in dressed in a half shirt and leather pants and introduce yourself as Clarence.

Hm, I'm not gay but even if I were, they wouldn't ask and I wouldn't tell. Or something like that.

I intended to do that but my scanner/printer is hooked up to the computer with no internet access. I guess I could scan it, burn it to CD and bring it over to this computer. Or I could try and get the network up and running, again.

Anyway, it's the truth whether I scan it or not. See above: I didn't actually get drafted, but I did get a letter telling me they know where to find me and reminding me of my selective service number.

I don't know what the terms are in the states but I'm pretty sure that in Canada if you get drafted and it could possibly screw with your bussiness or other personal issues you may be exempt.

I think the terms in the United States are if you have enough money, you're exempt. Otherwise, grab your fatigues, you're on the next transport out of here.

No doubt. Unless you're lining their pockets with tax dollars you can be considered expendable.

LOL, you get double the chance of being drafted! You'll pull one really good draft number which would keep you out of wars until you're 80 and then your second number will be like 18 or something

My computer doesn't have a floppy drive. I could carry the printer over here, but with all the cables and shit it would probably be easier to burn it to a CD and bring it over here. Or just not do it at all.

i dunno how they got that other name... i mean, junk mail started picking it up out of the middle of _nowhere_, and i only got like 3 pieces of mail a year by that name or something, and the sss picked it up.

oh well, it's not my name, so i'm not registering it ;)

I used to have everything all hooked up in a nice network, but I let it go to shit. Between OS installs and switching between Linux and Windows, I don't know if I can access the other filesystem from this PC or not.

My girlfriend gets mail all the time with a slight mispelling. She knows where it is coming from, too. One of her magazine subscriptions has her name wrong and all of a sudden she starts getting mail to that name.

What I don't like is that I have not filled in any government forms with this address but they have this address, anyway. I fucking hate that Big Brother bullshit. I'd love to find out who is selling my information to the Selective Service.

Ever read Starship Troopers? The letter I got actually contains the phrase "citizen-soldier". "As a citizen-soldier..."

Creepy.

I am registered. That's why I got this letter. However, I registered a long time ago and now they are sending me mail at this newer address?

I used to doubt it too, but with everything that's been going on... I mean, they've already called up basically ALL the reserves. Everyone I know who was a reservist is no longer walking the streets of the USA.

I don't think they'll need to reinstate the draft. At least I hope they don't see the need. Good thing for me that I'm old now.

Fuck em. If they send you a draft card, do what I did - burn it. Hell, I burned 82 of them.

Of course, I was in Navy Boot Camp when I did it ...

i have already done my eight years of service so they won't be calling me anytime soon,

during these modern times 1 soldier equals to like 100 soldiers of the past

i believe we'd had to be in a nuclear winter before the draft comes again
