the article doesn't even address the draining of the acquifers and the ground water depletion.

not to mention we are in fact in a drought. a weather drought not a we're low on water on account of some low profit farms so we're in a drought drought.

The problem is the whole right to water thing with out having to be accountable for usage. I was driving through New Mexico whom is in the middle of the same drought as Cali and see a fucking fig farm in the middle of NM. In the middle of the day, they are watering the fuck out of the place, I can only imagine how much just that one farm uses.

Ok well maybe it wasn't figs, truth is I have no fucking idea what they were but it was clearly some sort of farm and they were wasting a lot of water on it in the middle of the desert. This was just outside of Roswell, NM.

that's a problem. the ultimate problem is this is the unsustainable desert.

then on top of that, agriculture. and then big business like arrowhead water.

It's crazy that that much of those various items comes from just one state. You would think that things would be spread out a lot more to broaden the effect of regional droughts. I've never understood why FL for example doesn't have more farming. We get lots of rain here and the center of the state has large amounts of un-populated land.

As far as the water bottles. I saw a article or video about the amount of water the bottled water companies use. (people were bitching about them getting water too cheap from the govt and reselling it)

According to that article, a single golf course uses more water in a day than the bottling companies do.

Got too far reaching for me to continue, my statement was that people don't know just how much produce comes from California. Our climate is perfect for growing, thats why we have the best pot, enough rice to feed Japan.

It is the top state for agriculture in the US.

I think most people, specially those on the East Coast don't understand how bad it really is..

This was in Texas last summer, I forget what lake it was. That's a boat ramp and it was obviously well out of the water. In fact the water was a few thousand feet away. Where I took this picture was likely 10ft under water at the time that boat ramp was last used.

I think it's been quite a while since boats were left unattended here..

It was like this all over the place in Texas and there were next to no open boat ramps on any of the lakes unless it was on a River with water level controlled by dams.

This was a waterfall at a previous time, not too long ago..

Why that much plants in total are farmed on some "desert", especially plants those are not suitable for that kind of climate?
