i'm all for disrupting ME oil, and don't really care about some silly gas v electric argument, but the math is way off in that scenario. IF Tesla et al can ramp up to 500k/year by 2020, which is highly unlikely just based on giga battery factory #s, that amount of cars won't disrupt the 2 million barrels of oil/day we are seeing even now, based on the 15 barrels of oil/year per ev car disruption.

Sure, the cost of electric cars may be coming down - but it still costs $29,000USD to replace the batteries in a Tesla roadster.

Tesla Roadster battery pack replacement will cost $29,000

I'll stick to my gas-guzzling Optima EX, thanks.

my guess is electric vehicles & self driving tech will mature together. & the soul-satisfying excitement of open air cruising in an american V8 barge with steppenwolf on the radio, will be a thing of the past.

Eventually we're going to have to stop using huge chunks earth's irreplaceable resources to power the grid.

I learned today that Texas gets 10% of its total energy from Wind turbines. Pretty cool.

My last (3) cars were bought brand new and I only run premium in them. Is it needed? No, but burns cleaner and less carbon build up and have never had to replace a fuel injector or do any fuel injection cleaning.

2 things that scare me are electric cars and these automatic driving cars. Hopefully I'll be dead before either go mainstream or before I'm forced to own one.

well my older caddy only runs on premium. Even plus grade gas makes the engine knock. It's a fuel injected 4.9L.

why do you think the Saudi's are dumping their oil? They aren't as stupid as the rest it seems and realize they need to move as much as possible now before it's worthless.

When the electric car industry employs as many people as the oil industry and pays out as much to the employees while still making the top dogs what the oil guys do, then Maybe then something will change.

It's not about affording gas, it's more about polluting less and saving money, more about smarter technology, etc. It's also about fun. These are some of the reasons why even though gas prices have dropped, I would still go EV. They are cool to nerds like me.

I was thinking that they are dumping it to put the US and other oil makers out of business. I don't know if its true or not but I read somewhere that the true cost of oil is only about $7 or $8 a barrel. If this is a fact then the Saudis can afford a long economic battle.
