How actually secure is a VPN channel? I mean trusting a company offering a free vpn, is that ok?

I see what you are saying. Somebody crooked running a VPN could sniff all your traffic.

I remember watching on "American Greed" where an FBI agent went undercover in a carders forum. He gave all the members free VPN access. The VPN was run by the FBI.

So, I wouldn't really trust using a VPN for anything vital.

Yes it's 100% fine to use a free VPN, what couple possibly go wrong...
*sorry I'll stop with the sarcasm*

Considering that the VPN will encounter costs for servers bandwidth etc. I would stay away from free VPN's and changing your DNS to random IP's you find online.
It hurts my head to think of all the people that do this just to get a better ver of netflix...

Why not setup a secure VPN one of your own servers?
That's about as safe as you will get with a VPN.

If you are only going to use a free service from time to time assume it to be not secure and look for one that has a free and paid option and that has been around for a few years.
And do a quick lookup (whois etc) on the company/people you will be giving real time man in the middle access to all your bits and bites ...

Usvpn - a quick search tells me to not use this service... *If it's the one that comes up first when googling "Usvpn" [getusvpn[dot]com) ..
108 users -- Holding company based out of HK -- With an address in a public housing estate..

Any 3rd-party VPN you wanted to say, right? Because if the one is not a broke homeless Sid70, he can afford his own server, to set up his own VPN tunnel there

P.S. Actually that's what all normal people do
