As much as necessary (within limits). When we prepared to be several days out, we didn't take that kind of packs per se. We selected what we wanted and left rest at the barracks. I still have the left behind stuff at my home. No one asked us to give that unused stuff back, they just assumed we used it all and didn't care for leftovers.
Usually we left quite much canned stuff behind (heaviest one) and also some shitty dry foods. Some fucking cheese soups, come on; I hate cheese soup. I think that we didn't carry more than five days worth of food or so at any given time. If the battle exercise was serious shit, the limit comes from being awake 3 days in a row, not from the lack of the food.
During WWII, long range recons had previously made stacks and resupplys with plane droppings.Comment

They have an army?
Also I thought there are various packed lunches for different situations. At least in Russia it is: https://translate.google.com/transla...tml&edit-text=
E.g.:
Regular one (3110 kcal):

Combat one (3900 kcal):

Gain one (5340 kcal):

etc...Obey the CowgodComment
