Nice work man, Brian Williams and NBC have been repeating this story for 12 years about their brave and intrepid reporter being shot down by Iraqi RPG fire during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

?The story actually started with a terrible moment a dozen years back during the invasion of Iraq when the helicopter we were traveling in was forced down after being hit by an RPG,? Williams said on the broadcast. ?Our traveling NBC News team was rescued, surrounded and kept alive by an armor mechanized platoon from the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry.?

Williams and his camera crew were actually aboard a Chinook in a formation that was about an hour behind the three helicopters that came under fire, according to crew member interviews.

That Chinook took no fire and landed later beside the damaged helicopter due to an impending sandstorm from the Iraqi desert, according to Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Miller, who was the flight engineer on the aircraft that carried the journalists.

?No, we never came under direct enemy fire to the aircraft,? he said Wednesday.

When I was a kid my favorite newspaper columnist and reporter was a flamboyant guy who covered sports, he was a great writer. Somebody discovered and exposed that one of his columns was plagiarized from an American sportswriter. And that was the end of his career, caught once and dismissed after an illustrious 40 year career - that's how serious newspapers considered the integrity of a journalist.

Let's see how NBC reacts to this.

The entire reason reporters started being embedded was to control what was reported and put a positive spin on things. It was the reporters whom were not embedded during Vietnam whom told the true stories which sparked the protests.

Why do you think the military was so openly embedding reporters during the Gulf War & beyond? Why, because they wanted to control the news and spin a positive view on the wars. How many other stories do you not think were juiced up..

Yeah the originally report in 2003, he made it sound like the copters directly in front of his took fire, and they were all forced to land and seek protection from the tank infantry for 60 hours, until it was safe to go home.

When in fact they were 30-60 min behind the copters that took fire and landed. Then they had to land themselves and were grounded for 60 hours, only because of the sandstorm.

For 12 years, even as late as Friday, he repeated the lies. Good for ratings and rep. But usually death to a career if found out.

I suspect we will see a big circle the wagons movement though.

I understand that and that's the reason the military didn't expose this lie at the time BUT my point is that Williams and NBC's motivation to make up the story was not to win support for the war but to build up the image of the star news anchor.
