Are people really that stupid? As a matter of fact, yes, they are.I've always wondered about "training" with guns.
What the heck do you "train" people to do when they have a gun? It isn't brain surgery.
"Here is a gun. You put the bullets in like this. Pull the trigger. Bang. Here is the safety. Make sure that is on when the gun is not being fired. And don't point this gun at anybody unless you are meaning to shoot"
Does that really require people to be "trained" and take classes? Are people really that goddamned stupid?
These people cannot understand the concept of basic firearm safety - store your firearm where your children cannot access it. If you carry your firearm in your purse, you cannot put you purse and your child in a shopping cart. If you carry your firearm in your purse, you cannot leave your purse where you child can get it. This should be common sense, but yet accidents happen too often.
That doesn't even begin to address tactics. That poor guy in Wal Mart thought he was going to be a hero. He never gave any thought the fact the gunman had a partner.
It's our constitutional right to own firearms. Common sense is not required.Herschel Savage

Actually I understand quite well.. perhaps it is you two whom do not understand it's definition..
armed
ärmd/Submit
adjective
1.
equipped with or carrying a weapon or weapons.
"the security forces are armed with automatic rifles"
The kid had his hands on a gun and shot two people. Despite what you want to pretend, he/she was in fact armed. The kid could not shoot the gun with out being in position of the gun.. Therefore at the time of the shooting the child was armed with a gun..In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

So the girl violated these rules by not shooting? I guess USA has violated this rule a lot; it has pointed various countries with nukes without shooting. So irresponsible. Same applies to Russia too.
But about shooting, it takes practice. Unless your intent is just to fire the gun and shoot for the "bang".
By the way; in hunting there is a rule that you shouldn't shoot if there might be security issues or wrong specie, etc. Despite of pointing the gun. Same goes in war; you shouldn't shoot own people, even if you are already pointing at them.

I'm not sure what you are talking about in your first sentence.
The shooting part...yeah, it does take practice if you are wanting to become a great shot and be able to hit targets with great accuracy.
Not sure if that's what gun control people are referring to when they say "training" though.
I don't think their objective is to make people MORE lethal with the weapon. lol
What I meant is...why does it take classes and trainers to "train" people?
A gun is a very, very simplistic weapon. Put bullet in, aim, pull trigger.
Totally uneducated peasants were doing it hundreds of years ago.
And also...for safety issues...Doesn't seem like it should take months of training to be told how to be safe with a gun.
You can do that in a couple of sentences.
Now whether or not people will actually DO what they know they should is another story.
Complacency and familiarity of having the gun for a long time without anything going wrong is what led to this accidental shooting. (just like it does in most accidents in life)-Robbie

I was referring to the "point and shoot, or don't point- rule". Seems a tad silly to me.I'm not sure what you are talking about in your first sentence.

About the training. It does help with the "butter finger syndrome", and attitude training is also a big part. Although I haven't been in any formal gun training if you don't count army. Anyways, when shooting at local gun club, etc, it is not that uncommon to see folks "trained". Training in here means that they do safety, etc. errors and then they get corrected. Sometimes thrown out of the gun range if they are not fast enough learners. That is how I got trained; apparently it is not enough for fellow shooters that you can shoot with the gun; right direction, etc. is also appreciated. Not that I would have been thrown out of the range or anything similar.
Oh, and I started shooting many years before army (as 15 years old).Comment
