This is what I'm really about as far as guns. I don't have an issue with people owning guns, but training and safety courses should be mandatory. Sadly the NRA lobbyist fight this despite the fact they started as a gun safety organisation vs what they have become which is a gun manufacturer lobbyist firm.
When I took my course for my CW permit, I was actually amazed how little there was to do with safety, but rather most of the class was about legalities of carrying a gun not the responsibility or safe handing.In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

I believe the NRA has become so corrupt by corporate financial interests that they are essentially useless now. They used to sponsor gun education for kids. If they still do that, they surely do it much more quietly than they lobby for big money.
I don't believe gun training should be required to get a gun, any more than passing a math test should be required to get a bank account. But I deeply believe that our public education system should do a better job of training in both.Comment

The firearm was in a purse you say? Well, COMMON SENSE tells you, as a parent, your only purpose is to protect your child. Period. There is no exception to this rule. Any violation of this rule could potentially cause the government to take your child away from you AND lock you up in prison.
This has nothing to do with firearms. It's just common sense. This is why we keep cleaning chemicals out of the reach of children. This is why we keep medicine out of the reach of children. Anything that can cause harm to a child needs to be keep away from children.Herschel Savage

I've always wondered about "training" with guns.
What the heck do you "train" people to do when they have a gun? It isn't brain surgery.
"Here is a gun. You put the bullets in like this. Pull the trigger. Bang. Here is the safety. Make sure that is on when the gun is not being fired. And don't point this gun at anybody unless you are meaning to shoot"

Yes they are. Any other questions? lol When you have little kids shooting themselves,their brother and sisters because they go play with Daddies gun because it was laying around. Or little kids shooting and sometimes killing their parents because the kid doesnt know but the gun was easy to get to. People treat it like just another appliance around the house. So its either required training to get a license or your 3 yrs old kid shoots Mom with your gun ,you go to jail.Comment

Apparently people die everyday for being that god damn stupid or worse yet kill someone else. It's one thing if you grow up in a rural area and have experience with guns at a young age, but most people don't have that and don't learn to respect a gun.
Just like people need to be taught how to drive a car or to ride a bike, they need to be taught how to properly handle a gun. It's a deadly weapon and should be treated as such.
