The cat came back ... from the dead.
The owners of a cat in Florida buried their pet after it was hit by a car and found lifeless, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay wrote on its blog.
Five days later, the cat showed up in their neighbour's yard after digging itself out of the grave.
The Humane Society says the cat was weak, dehydrated and in need of veterinary care.
"We have seen many amazing cases at our full-service veterinary clinic, but this situation may take the cake," the society wrote.
Unable to afford the fees at other clinics, the owners brought he cat to the humane society for care.
The cat is being treated for a broken jaw, open facial wounds and a serious eye wound. The cat was scheduled for surgery to remove the damaged eye on Tuesday but is expected to recover fully otherwise and return home.
