Those other kids in the classroom are doing exactly what I would advise. You can hear at least one of them say "I am out of here". Never try to be a hero because you could just get into trouble. Just stand back and do not get involved. This is not 1970 when you could still have some morals and act on them.

Also the kid who took down the teacher said "its my fucking phone bro". He is right, it is his phone. This is the USA in 2015 and we have devolved into a civilization teetering on the brink of collapse and you cannot take a phone a way from someone without expecting a violent reaction regardless if you are a teacher or not.

Yes, it's his phone. But it's the teacher's classroom. And the teacher is responsible for enforcing the rules (assuming this school has a no-phones rule).

No rules = anarchy and chaos.

I tend to agree with you that we're slipping in to a civilization teetering on the brink of collapse, though. But those tasked with the job of enforcing society's rules can't simply throw their hands up in defeat and let the mob rule. The law of the jungle can't win at the end of the day.

Teacher should have had a gun and used it!

Do like they use to. Call the school and they will notify the kid. Worked well before cell phones!

The article states they're allowed cellphones if they're being used for schoolwork - but the teacher has the right to confiscate them until the end of the day if that's not what they're being used for.

                          Wow...are you really that dim?!

What about the rights of the students whose education is being hampered by the annoyance and distraction of a kid next to them using his cellphone for things he's not supposed to?
