Converting .avi's to mpeg-1's
Hey!
Anyone out there shooting content and converting files from avi's to mpegs? If so, I have two questions: 1) What software do you using/reccommend? 2) I'm using Premiere 6.5 with their Main Concept MPEG encoder (newest version 1.3) and I'm trying to get a good 2 minute clip in at 10 megs or so...still having a hard time with quality...any ideas? Thanks. Billy Watson |

Just a quick follow up:
I wouldn't say Premiere is resource hog at all...it allows for some great transitions, their .wmv encoder is really great, and since I'll eventually burn the content to DVD... the free version of TMPGEnc does not allow to convert to mpeg-1. Thanks for the replies so far. Billy |

ummm....yes it does...even if it isnt a registered version it will still do mpeg1. mpeg-2 in the non registered version is the one that wont work.....but there is a Plus version that allows that as well. |

I use Premiere 6.5 also, but after MPEG Encoder, I run it through Canopus Pro Coder. Cuts the file size almost in half with no loss of quality. Plus you can output to other formats. Contact me if you need help.
