    Shooting (stills) tethered...

Any thoughts on shooting tethered? I find that I can't shoot fast enough tethered... Canon 5D Mark II. Maybe there is a better way to tether my camera to my MacBook Pro?

for content don't think tethered is the way to go.. I think tethered for annoying productions like fashion... you know where 2-3 'producers' can look at each pic and make changes /suggestions/say stupid shit.. etc..

Capture One Pro is the industry standard software for tethering I believe.

I've tried it a few times - way too slow for me. Having to drag a cord around while shooting is a pain in the ass. If you are shooting for clients who are on set - that makes sense. They may want to see what you're shooting on a bigger screen while you're shooting it. But for shooting porn when you are the producer - it's very difficult and slow.

I often tethered to a monitor in the studio - mostly when I was getting experimental with low/available lighting. But rarely to a laptop.

I've experimented with shooting tethered in LR for high production value sets where you don't need a big image count. For the typical website stills set where you shoot ~175-200 photos to yield ~125 edited images, it's way too slow, IMHO.

Shooting tethered is pretty awkward no matter how you slice it. Although I believe there's a way to do it using technology nowadays where you are not physically tethered via a cord to a laptop. But, that being said, I never have anyone looking over my shoulder on my sets that needs to see anything, so I never bother shooting tethered.

If I want to look at the images in hi-res as I begin shooting a set to check the light or setup I'll just pause shooting briefly, pop the CF card out and sit down and look at the images on my desktop and hi-res monitor if I am at home or my laptop screen if I'm on location.
