Basically, he's in over his head, owes everyone money, they are all going to kill him etc etc etc. He finally gets the basketball kid to fix a game, wins 1/2 the money he needed... goes to that asian guys casino with the cash... asian guy says "give me my fucking money" and other guy shows up saying "give me my fucking money" and he informs 2 of the most dangerous people in town that he's going to bet it to double it right then and there or neither one of them is getting paid. These are two guys who have actively been trying to kill him and he's betting at the asian guys casino as if the asian guy actually has to honor the bet. Further, if he wins, its the asian guy who has to pay out the money... so after spending 1/2 the movie trying to kill him for not paying his debts, he's now allowing him to bet the money he finally came to pay. So it made no sense. The idea of course is that bad ass number 2 is there so there is a bit of a mexican standoff, but still, neither would agree to this. And the Asian guy is certainly not going to agree to allow him to bet it so that he himself then has to pay it to bad ass number 2 and he gets nothing.

Anyway, he wins... gives them the money, tells them to fuck off and then he walks outside.. its pitch black. He tells bad ass number 2 to fuck off as he drives by in his car and has words with him. He is having his moment of triumph, feeling good about himself and he starts running. Forest Gump style. He just starts running. You are thinking its about 1am or so. He is wearing dress clothes. He basically makes up his mind that he's done gambling and he is running back to his girl so they can live happily every after.

So he's running... and running... and running. Now the sun is coming up and he's still running and running and running. Now, its fully daylight out and he's still running and running and running (in his dress clothes/shoes) and all you're thinking is "what the fuck, he's been running for like 4hrs at least, he's an english teacher who spends all night drinking and partying".

Finally, he gets to the girls place and stops and in a moment that fully confirms every bad feeling you have about the movie, you realize "he's been running for hours, in black dress shoes and a button up shirt and slacks and he hasn't even got one drop of sweat on his brow and his shirt is 100% dry". He then knocks on her door, where inside, she hears the knock and turns her head to look at the door and the credits roll.

I stayed all the way to the end,... seemingly to punish myself for some reason I am still trying to understand.

Somehow I can just imagine that this is gonna be like a poor version of "A Beautiful Mind" (that Russel Crowe movie).

I really liked that movie because its memorable, the visuals and the score were fantastic.

I especially hated the use of music every 10 minutes to transition between scenes...as if the movie was communicating a profound message. Total crap movie.

I will say that John Goodman's character was good though. His body looks almost non-human.
