Try a hostel, my buddies did that on their trek through the EU and they highly recommend it. Cheaper and more fun.

They rent out fully furnished flats and rooms. Much better alternative to the notoriously small hotel rooms in Amsterdam.

Nice and friendly people that run it, they have helped me several times.
