anti-weed trolls do like to take the easy way out, that's for certain.

The funny thing is you're going to hide your stance from your grandkids if you have any in the future. You'll be looked at like this..

"In particular alcohol use was found to be strongly associated with IQ decline," the authors write. "No other factors were found to be predictive of IQ change."

Don't worrie... the average person would only notice a decline when he hits the 85...

On a serious nuanced note: decline is something different then putting yourself in a day to day situation were you won't be able to reach your full potential. I heard a lot of: "I function best when i'm high" but i also at the same time saw a lot of those people not functioning at all. Recreational use is something different.

Regarding to the link:

"No, marijuana use doesn?t lower your IQ" is a premature statement!!!!

"Although it would be too strong to say that the results have been discredited, the methodology is flawed and the causal inference drawn from the results premature," it concluded."

"Premature results" means something completely different then incorrect/false results.
But i guess everyone wants to read what suits them best.

Further:

"Other researchers questioned the findings almost immediately: Columbia University's Carl Hart noted the very small sample of heavy users (38) in the study, leading him to question how generalizable the results were."

Now read carefully... because interpreting is science too: So in fact there were samples of lower IQ after use of cannabis!!! The only thing that raised questions was the size of the group that showed IQ decline, so the question that raised was how generalizable the results were.

Further:

Now, a new study out from the University College of London provides even stronger evidence that the Duke findings were flawed. The study draws on a considerably larger sample of adolescents than the Duke research - 2,612 children born in the Bristol area of the U.K. in 1991 and 1992. Researchers examined children's IQ scores at age 8 and again at age 15, and found "no relationship between cannabis use and lower IQ at age 15,"

I cannot read anywhere how many of those 2,612 children were actually pot-smokers. All 2,612 were tested at the age of 8... but however smart scientests are... it's not possible to forsee how many of those 2,612 kids would smoke pot in their later years. So... is this another example of a "to small of a group" to claim generalizable results? I cannot find anywhere how many of those 2,612 turned out to be pot-smokers.

Another thing is... i find the conclusion very premature... How long have these 15 year old kids that actually smoked pot, have been smoking pot and how much? Wouldn't it be better to test them again at the age of 30 before making ridicoulous premature claims?

yeah, and working out can cause shin splints and knee strain, getting fresh air exposes one to smog (carcinogens!!!), watching one's weight can lead to anorexia, vodka can cause cirrhosis and going to the beach raises the risk of skin cancer. I know how I want to live, and it's not fleeing in fear from the things that make a day a bit more enjoyable

I wish I could smoke more often-every single (highly successful and high-functioning) person I par with does, but I'm neurotic and and way too fucking introspective for my own good so when I do I tend to sit in the corner silently and think for hours, not much of 'party' vibe. For that reason booze is my drug of choice when I hit a session/club, even though it's far more damaging to my body than herb. Still, in the right mood late at night it feels awesome, and is far less damaging than other socially acceptable substances like booze. I know a chica who died at 40 from varicose veins in her stomach (a common symptom amongst alcoholic women).

congrats on your sobriety (truly-that's huge and you should be damn proud of that accomplishment) but I don't think it's fair to equate the risks inherent to substance abuse with the casual usage of a fairly innocuous substance in the grand scheme of things. I suspect that as a recovering addict you look at weed smokers the same way I look at peeps who eat fast food. to me they're ingesting pure poison and I can't fathom anyone choosing to desecrate their bodies with that crap, but some people can handle it in moderation so props to em if they enjoy it. enjoying weed in moderation is different than the effects caused by an addiction-to anything. hell, I'm sure if I injected straight caffeine into my veins I'd run into problems, it's not just about what we ingest but how much of it, how often.

people who do nothing but smoke herb all day destroy their bodies and their minds, but that's about addiction, not the substance. the same can be said for alcoholics, over-eaters, gambling addicts, that weird tanning addict lady, shopping addicts, anyone who uses something of external origin to escape from their lives.

Big yellow fonts really seem to prove your point that your IQ hasn't declined... :1orglaugh

Cannabis is a neuroprotectant. You can parrot reefer madness bullshit all you want.

AGAIN Cannabis absolutely does not lower your IQ. It stimulates the brain, your's obviously is no longer being stimulated, and has deviated down to a retarded states. Well done. :thumbsup

I made a distinction in size and colors: yellow is the article and white is my writting... because i wanted to make sure people didn't get confused reading all the words from different people/sources. So in fact i was trying to be helpful. The fact that you felt like i was trying to do that to SCREAM says really a lot about you (little paranoid from the weed maybe?) :winkwink:

You didn't back that claim up with a link to an article? Well... i don't see how that would change anything, because it was clearly documented that gfy is not the place for the best research interpretations. And when i translated those researches for you and showed you were and how and what where the errors in these researches.... you simply ignore it and don't say a word about it. Instead of that you are trying to insult me.... nice...

Yes... i'm having trouble getting stimulation for my brain... I had that all my life and tried a lot to escape from boredom. I also tried pot... but i found that rather mind-narrowing instead of mind-blowing.

I don't see successful potheads.... I only see people that suck cocks for money to buy weed so I have that view of weed smokers :2 cents:

ruff 12-29-2014 11:53 AM

The problem with pot the way I see it is it is too damn powerfull. Back in the day, you could roll a doobie and smoke it and everything was just fine. Now I have to pinch off a few flakes and smoke it like a fine hashish. Then it bonks me in the head and sends me back to 1970. Whatever happened to dime bags?

you don't need a study or an opinion to know that it impairs cognitive function, you should just know this from experience at this point. Not with yourself maybe but at least with others you have seen over do it over the years.

I still think its relatively harmless mind you, and think it is reasonable to make it legal to some extent, but lets not kid ourselves and start pushing bullshit that its good for you or that it doesn't impair judgement or brain activity--that is just simply obvious and denying it only hurts your cause.
