Good non-american movies

Yep, I agree that Hollywood kicks ass, but let's post some good non-US movie recommendations for a change. I'll start:

The Firemen's Ball
The Firemen's Ball (1967) - IMDb

Czech's comedy from 1960s. Lots of lolz

The Man Without a Past
The Man Without a Past (2002) - IMDb

Finland, Aki Kaurismäki
Can't describe it lol. You need to see it for yourself.

The Marathon Family
The Marathon Family (1982) - IMDb

Yugoslavia, 1982. Lots of lolz, great actors

Yup after "The Interview" I'm not watching any more damn American made movies. (Keep making garbage like that Hollywood and sooner or later you won't have to worry about piracy anymore)

If you can get an english or subtittled version of

1) The Sicilian Clan (1969) The Sicilian Clan (1969) Official Trailer #1 - Alain Delon Movie HD - YouTube
The Sicilian Clan (1969) - IMDb

2) Mr. Klein (1976) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuV8RgCxCYQ

Suggestion

There are a lot of great ones and in the spirit of staying current I'll suggest a Polish movie from this year: "Ida". It's possibly going to run for Academy Awards this year.

Brotherhood of the Wolf, a crazy French genre mishmash that you will either love or hate but I found it entertaining

All of Kurosawa's films but especially the Samurai ones... Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Ran, Kagemusha, Sanjuro, Rashomon

Jodorowsky's El Topo, Holy Mountain, Sante Sangre, and the documentary about his attempt to do Dune, Jodorowsky's Dune

Zatoichi, the 2003 version

Queen Margot historical drama but never a dull moment

Sadly there isn't one great Canadian movie ever made, there's a handful of decent Canadian movies. The main reason is that anybody who's a talented screenwriter, director or actor is going to go to Hollywood as soon as they can.

Not sure David Cronenberg falls under that assumption completely. He has made some great movies and mostly outside of Hollywood and mostly in Canada.

Dead Ringers
Eastern Promises
History of Violence
Scanners
Videodrome
Crash
Naked Lunch
The Fly remake

Anyone see the original uncut version of the 1960 movie "Peeping Tom"
Directed by Michael Powell? It ruined his career.

Whatever reasons drove Powell to make Peeping Tom, he had effectively signed his career's death warrant. The film opened to scathing reviews in April 1960, just months after the similarly-themed Psycho. Ironically, Hitchcock floated out of the controversy surrounding Psycho as the consummate old trickster, and saved his slowly sinking career. The time seemed ripe for Peeping Tom among audiences and critics alike. Unfortunately for Powell, the critics could find none of Psycho's black humour in his sober tome. 'Sick' and ?vile' were a small sample of their vitriol. The papers were outraged that a filmmaker of Powell's calibre could sink his talents into material so vulgar and perverse. Powell hoped the distributor would weather the storm and allow the audience to find the film on its own merits. Instead, the plug was pulled on Peeping Tom after five days and at least in Britain the film was buried.

Naked Amongst the Wolves - East Germany 1963

Die Abenteuer des Werner Holt (1965) East Germany

Of course as you all live in a free and open country you will all be familar with these two great films, unlike those who live in countries where they have no knowledge of Hollywood films.

A lot of titled I have enjoyed in this thread.

Would also mention that Spanish cinema has some good stuff, I liked most of Pedro Almodovar's movies.

Recently saw one called "Witching and Bitching" that probably won't win any awards but I really enjoyed it.

Incendies (2010)

Incendies (2010) - IMDb

This film is extraordinary on just about every level. The script is terrific, the actors are perfect, the direction and cinematography are all you could hope for. I recommend it without hesitation.

All pornographers should watch A Dirty Shame at least once.

It was shot in a country called Baltimore.
