also, they are the only people that marry old school metal with new school punk.

Of course, being the limited individual you are, you'll discard it as crap before it even starts...

Also, they have the greatest line ever... pretty much, and it applies to you [labret]:

"And yes, I recognize the irony that the very system I oppose affords me the luxury of biting the hand that feeds. But that's exactly why priviledged fucks like me should feel obliged to whine and kick and scream- until everyone has everything they need. "

Did they not have releases on Fat Wreck? Think hard on this one. Or just go look for yourself.

Old school metal with new school punk? Are you fucking serious. There is a whole school of music out there called hardcore and more specifically, metalcore, that have been doing it for years. But you probably never heard of any of it because its not on the radio, mtv, or on a "major" label.

You clueless fuck.

punk metal mix. You just described hardcore goober.

Prop has been on fat.

New lagwagon is horrible IMO. But I absolultely LOVE DUH and thier older albums. Have you heard thier side band, bad astronaut? I also dislike that band, but again I'm a huge fan of old lagwagon. I think silver tab summed it up when he said it depends what your looking for. I for one, couldn't give two shits about the lyrics. They could be singing about lolly pops, but if the MUSIC sounds good and is put together well, in my opinion it makes a great song. Ill put out an invite to anyone that wants to stop by EFNET #mp3punk . Though you might hate it (alot of pop punk loving people there) We like to recommend each other music.

ahahahah, oh man...

obviously you didnt listen to the song...

I didnt mean metalcore, I didnt mean hardcore.

I worked at a college radio-station for 4 years. We had records from every little 2 bit label in Canada. And I listened to ALL of them. Ive heard more music in my life than you can imagine. And, differently from you, Ive always given new music a chance. And I can see value in things I dont like.

My father listens to Jazz, Blues, Rock'n'Roll, French singer-songwriters, Quebec's music and that influenced my tastes.
The radio station played EVERYTHING from world music to death metal. (Country tuesday's were always a nightmare ;)

You know what I realised after listening to all this?

Most Music SUCKS.

But I also learned that limiting yourself to a genre, and discarding everything else is pretty fucking stupid.

Seems to me that what you like isnt music but guys who act tough and spit on people. Thats one taste. I like music.

Ever heard of Gaffer?

DrGuile 03-14-2003 02:47 PM

On a side note.

I like FAT Wreck Chord.

I dont like 98% of the music they put out, but I like how they run their business. Nobody gives more money to the artists, the employees are well paid. The CDs arent made in China, etc...

Like new Mad Caddies, suuuuucks. Its a shame what a label will do to a band. Fat Wreck and Epitaph have taken MANY a great band and whored them into shit.

I am in there once and while. Which is the one with the bots? #punkmp3s? I believe so. All those irc punk channels are crap. All emo kids and 12 year old skaters. I get kick banned often because I cant help but go off on them. The PMS and RH channels used to be good, but they are always locked now.

Bored 03-14-2003 02:51 PM

#mp3punk is the original. The rest suck ass. Though I cant speak for you not being banned. Some of the ops do what they like when they like, and some ARE pretty young. I've been an op there for 5 years and one of the 'older' crowd though im only 24. If you stop by msg me, ill be sure to help you out.

I've only heard thier first album and hated it. I guess I was expecting something more Lagwagon'ish and was dissapointed. Maybe I'll give them another try.

If you guys like new school
Check out Venerea from sweeden. Currently my favorite band. Out of all the albums they have there is only 3-4 songs I dont like.

You know jack shit of what I listen to. I am a partner in a label, knowing music IS my business. 98% of the shit I listen to I can guarantee you have never even heard of. I do not limit myself to any particular genre, if you pay attention you will see me discussing everything from black metal to RAC. Bands that act tough and spit on people? Nice generalization of something you know absolutely nothing about.

You ask my opinion on a shit band and I give it to you. You dont like it so you make idiotic points.

You like "music"? Good for you. I hate hypocrites. Canadian anarchists playing half assed new school punk crying about the system while sucking the systems fat cock. "I hate the system, gimme my check please". They are a joke. Everything about them sucks. They are mall punk.

Id let you into my ftp so you can see what real punk and metal is if I didnt think you would go crying to my isp.

And that song you posted sucks. Crying about Purina hurting animals is not punk, its emo. vegan emo crybaby crap. fucking bandwagon jumpers.

Another reason I hate Propaghandi, they just ripped off Gorilla Biscuits and repackaged it.

This whole idea of Propaghandi innovating by mixing punk and metal is mind numbing.

This was Gorilla Biscuits doing it in 1989. Before that, we had bands like the Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Negative Approach.

Who did Propaghandi rip off?

Gorilla Biscuits - New Direction 1989 godfathers of youthcrew hardcore

Agnostic Front - Crucified 1987 back when they were good.

This punk metal hybrid has been around awhile. Some of us call it hardcore. Propoghandi did not invent it.

notion 03-14-2003 03:32 PM

My rant:

Like some other people have said; punk rock is in your head, not what the media labels it or some one else thinks it is. By being 'punk' you don't throw an anarchy symbol on your shoe and wear a sliced up shirt. For me, punk rock is not about 'rebelling' (of course it was in junior high, but those days are over), but more of being 'aware'. Look around you. Things are fucked up. FIX THEM. Stop crying about posers, new school punks, etc -- and start fixing things. Write letters to congress, clean up a beach, ride a bike.

Propaghandi sure changed their opinion on bar codes quickly when they saw how much it hurt sales. :)

On the other hand, at least they sang about their political opinions at a time when many punk bands didn't want to offend anyone because they feared it might hurt their sales.

Look at the state of music today, most mainstream musicians are afraid to say anything about the war, for it or against it, because they don't want to lose any sales.

Most of the people who knows a bit about music (i.e. if you ever played an instrument) will admit that LagWagon has talent...loving them as a band may imply more than only admitting that they have talent! ;)

I do like this band tough...Every single song they produced...can't wait for the new album

But unlike you, I wont call Lagwagon "punk".

I like :wumpscut: and Funker Vogt, I dont call them "punk". I like The Slackers and Laurel Aitken, not punk.

You still dont get it do you?

My beef is people calling shit punk when it is not punk. Just call your shit what it is. If you like Limp Bizkit and POD, you dont like metal... you like Top 40. If you like Greenday and Blink, you dont like punk... you like Top 40.

Why do I always have to explain these things to you?

Sarah_Jayne 03-14-2003 04:08 PM

i love punk but that doesn't mean I like all punk songs...same with metal..same with good old fashioned rock in roll.

In reality I am a slave to good - preferably chunky - gutair. However, if it is a good song I don't care what it is called..punk pop can be fun, black metal can get my blood pumping...hell in the right mood I can dance around to cheesey 80's crap. Good music, is good music.

Good point on the Hardcore. Call AF, Gorilla Biscuits, Cro Mags, or Sick of it All Punk Rock and they get pissed. They are pretty rigid in their definitions of Punk, Hardcore, and Emo.
According to them, they are Hardcore.

And Labret - If you are still rushing the stage for the Crucified sing along then AF is still good, thats the way I see it.
