cookies + windows media player?

In my member's area, I have .wmv's and MPEGS....Everytime a member clicks on a link to download a movie, Windows Media prompts for a username and password. Is there any way to make it so they aren't prompted each time?

I think one solution is to embed them, but I'm not a big fan of doing that for every single movie....

Any ideas?

Switch to Quicktime movies and you won't have to deal with shit like this.

That would be great advice if the majority of surfers actually had Quicktime installed, moron.

Embedding them won't work with all versions of media player. The simplest solution is to not password protect your media files. A better solution (although harder) is to use a session id in the url for authentication.

How about this?

If create the movie links in the following way:

http://username:[email protected]/members/myvideo.wmv

it seems to work. I'm sure there are some security issues I'm overlooking by using this method, although I can't think of any at this moment.

Anyone?

Browsers will cache http://username:[email protected]/members/myvideo.wmv
and having the username/password showing up in URLS isnt a good thing
