Visiting NYC - Shit to do?
I'm going to come out to NYC (never been there...but I loved Atlanta, Chicago, and LA) for spring break - April 12th through 21st or somewhere within those days. By then, it's pretty easy to guess we'll be at war with Iraq. Will the major tourist spots be shut down?
What all is there to do in NYC with my 17 year old GF (don't get started, I'm only 18...turning 19 on the 24th of March)? Any restaurants you guys recommend, broadway shows, shops, other attractions? I just want to see the city in general, but what is there to do specifically? And also, how expensive are hotels (we're driving, so 10-20 minutes outside the city is fine, a cheap hotel)? Thanks for the info ahead of time...

Check out http://www.villagevoice.com and http://www.timeoutny.com
There will be tons for you to do. 1 out of every 3 small clubs don't check ID in the East Village. Just keep that in mind when you start hanging out.

As a quick tally, I'm planning on spending 4 days, 3 nights there (most likely). With 1-2 good shows, 1-2 nice restaurants (not $100/plate, but decent restaurants), some site seeing, and hotel (can be 10-30 minutes outside the city), how much should I be looking to spend for two?
We're driving, is there any decent driving/parking in NYC? Or should we grab a shuttle from the hotel -> inner city and walk/subway?

I wanna do stuff "NYC-style" for lack of better terms. Perhaps hit some of the underground hot clubs in the area. I'm 18 (will be 19 by then) but my GF is 17...is the best approach just to go to a certain club area (gimme some streets, suggestions) and just try to get in, and say she left her ID at home?
What's just "FUN" to do in NYC, aside from restaurants, broadway, and site seeing? Any weird shit like drag shows, or comedy clubs, or any of that? I know there is...but I'm just looking for some recommendations, for shit I won't forget. Also, how are alcohol sales in NYC? Pretty much every place ID? If so, somebody want to meet up somewhere? ![]()

Here's the info for a hotel I found at Orbitz.com - only $80/night there. Would it be decent to stay here and take a taxi to the inner city, or does the subway reach that far? I don't want to drive around down town, I'd prefer to walk around / take subways.
135-30 140TH STREET, QUEENS, NY 11436 12 Miles Southeast of New York (Midtown) -Elegant but relaxed atmosphere at the completely reconstructed Radisson Hotel JFK Airport -Opened in October 1998 -Indoor parking facility -Conveniently located to the Belmont and Aqueduct Race Tracks -US Open National Tennis Center -Yankee and... hotel and room details, photos and maps

make sure ur underaged girlfriend has an id before hand, or else you will look like a dumbass at the door trying to get in. most places u have to be 21 anyways.
also driving is a pain in the ass. ppl drive like maniacs and you will get lost. i never drive in NY since i dont want some fucker to hit my shit, i take a plane and hit the subways or catch a limo or taxi.

Aunt Ruth's (Soul Food)
113 W. 116th St., - order the al sharpton Ya Ma (Sushi) 38 Carmine St. (subway w4th st) - $20-25 bucks a person, no drinks - embarrassingly good service I can't find the exact address right now but 'castile de jagua' is a rice and beans place that is good for lunch on rivington near essex in the lower east side. and for web sites, check out http://www.papermag.com the city guide is the best. if you would like to see something different the worster group should have a show at BAM. they have theatre with video and some crazy computer stuff. cheers, mike |
