Every year you'll read about Americans being upset because people have to work on thanksgiving or that people go to stores to buy stuff.

What the fuck is wrong with you crybabies? If people want to buy stuff, let them. If people want to work, let them. If people are forced to work and cry all night, fuck them and tell them to look for a new job.

"Wanting" is sometimes a bit subjective issue. If your boss says, "Work at thanks giving or get fired.", do I want to work at thanks giving, or am I forced to? Of course wanting to keep a job is wanting too, but if I want to keep my job and not to work at thanks giving?

I am not American so this is more like academic talk, but every country has similar issues, the day's name is just different.

Pretty sure Americans get/take the close to if not the least amount of vacations days... so when a federal holiday comes up you can bet your ass people are going to want to have it off.. otherwise, what's the fucking point of having federal holidays..

people who feel the need to rush out from thanksgiving dinner to go stand in line for hours and hours at walmart or best buy to buy shitty TV's and other junk that'll be in the trash by this time next year (and I know a lot of them) can go get fucked for all I care.

I don't quite understand this thread. As already mentioned, we have a limited amount of holidays/vacations. People working on Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year's are usually in the retail industry or food service. Food service is pretty limited, most places are closed on those holidays. Gas stations are often hard to find. The people working will be places like Target, Walmart, Toys "R" Us, etc.

I'll be working on Thanksgiving morning, because I want to. In the afternoon I'll be eating turkey and pie, because I want to. In the evening I'll have some more turkey and pie, again, because I want to. When I get home I'll check my messages and see if I need to handle anything for my European friends, because I want to.
