Build BOMBS... ration chalk.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/EDUCATION/03....ap/index.html

The US government builds the mother of all bombs.... meanwhile, your schools are rationing chalk and paper.

It's nice to know education in your country is such a priority.

If you want to effectively manipulate the opinions of a nation, it makes sense to keep the majority uneducated.

Give them just enough education so that they can work at the local auto manufacturing plant, and shop at Wal-Mart, and you can build an army of voters that will believe anything you need them to in order to support the means to an end.

Wow, you're insecure.

Business success of a relatively few individuals is hardly an indication of a nations level of education.

There are millions of extremely educated individuals in the US. Unfortunately, there is a wide gap between the well educated and the poorly educated. In the US, a good education often depends on how wealthy an individuals family is, and unfortunately the average American is not wealthy enough to afford private schools that cost many thousands a year to attend, the result being a large majority receive a below average education while the wealthy receive an above average aducation.

Shall we have a look at OECD surveys?

Well, there's no disputing that lack of money will impede one's ability to get a "higher education". However, the lack of a college degree does not prohibit the proliferation of a successful individual in and of itself, and does not stagnate one's ability to LEARN on his own.

Let's look at some other interesting FACTS, while we're on the subject:

1) At least 108 members of The Forbes 400 Wealthiest Americans never graduated from college. Their average net worth: $4.3 billion each!

2) Even among ordinary, middle class Americans, of the people making over $100,000 per year, over 24 percent lack a college degree.

3) There are over 3.5 million millionaires in the U.S. (as of 1997). That comes out to one in every 36 people.

Not being able to "afford" an education is no excuse for being a dumbass.

Now you see why they are "coming to America". One of the only places on the planet where you have a 1 in 36 chance of becoming wealthy without a piece of paper that says you're smart.

I never said we have an excellent education system. In fact, I agree there needs to be improvements made in the quality of our schooling. However, facts are indeed facts. And the fact remains that you don't NEED to have the best education facilities available to you in order to become a success, and in order to be an independant thinker.

One thing our schools do NOT teach, and should... is how to become successful AFTER you graduate. Big flaw in most schooling systems throughout the world I would presume. But let's not say only the RICH get a good education, and in the same breath imply that a good education is the only route to becoming a success in this country, because that's defeating the entrepreneurial mentality that our "poor" kids NEED to make it out of the ghettos and into the penthouse.

Again, I'm not AGAINST a good education, but those who don't get one or "can't" get one still have a more than fair chance at success. IF they really want it.

Do you think that the majority of millionaires earned their wealth themselves? I doubt it.

Chances are they inherited it from the parents.

Have a look at how many Waltons are on the Forbes 400 even though Sammy is dead. I think their are 4, maybe 5 of his wife/sons/daughters on there.

Does that make them successful?

I do not know how many "Waltons" are listed with Forbes but the bulk of "millionaires" today are self made. Any working stiff that has a job that pays well enough to have expendable income and uses that expendable income wisely will become worth a minimum of a million dollars in his life time. I know many of these types of millionaires.

The real question is what defines a millionaire. His worth or his cash on hand as several of my friends are worth several million but none of them actually have a million dollars in the bank because they keep investing in one thing or another.

Again, you're speaking through your anal cavity. There are over 5 million businesses in the US. Roughly 98% of them have fewer than 100 employees. Of the firms with fewer than 20 employees, the average income revenue is $570,000. Those with more than 20 average revenue in excess of $5 million.

Yes, I believe the majority of millionaires in this country are self-made. I'd be happy to do some research on that for you to get exact figures, but I'm pretty confident the percentage of millionaires who inherited the money pales in comparison to those who earned it through small to mid-sized businesses and wise investment planning.

I like how you made up stats without backing them up with references to any credible source.

Also, whats with your need to insult people that have a different opinion than you? How old are you?

I must be slipping, I usually don't get into discussions with immature people.

You may not be aware of how funding for the school system works in the USA. Funding for schools is primarily based upon an individual County tax base. The County I live in for example has a poor tax base so the schools are not equal to schools in a County that has a higher tax base. Teachers of poorer Counties also receive lesser pay than those that get jobs in Counties with higher tax bases. Counties are also subsidized by State funding when the individual State has the funds. To a far lesser extent the States receive a certain amount of Federal funds for education. I live in California and California currently has a 30-40 billion dollar short fall in its budget. Schools in my County are cutting every thing that can be cut including eliminating classes.

This is our system for funding education in this country. I have been a long time proponent for overhauling the system as it seems inherently unfair that school buildings, educational supplies, curriculums, and teacher pay should be funded by a County Tax base as County Tax bases have to great of a variance.

In addition States have to great of a variance in income. I am of the opinion that schools and teacher pay should be equal across the nation and not be dependent upon County and State tax bases.

I'm "quoting" myself here. Don't think I've done that before. Anyway, here's another credible resource that shows an increase in the nations millionaires up to 2001 (and they're not all inheriting it. In fact, very few are). They're earning it through business investments, and small business profit growth.

A significant difference, wouldn't you say?

Who cares? I went to first and half of second grade before my partents and I got me out of there and home schooled me. Didn't go back till highschool (because of the law) Public education sucks and is little more than an unregulated day care.

I would be happy if I was given the option of pulling out the part of my state taxes out that pays for schools and keeping it. Our education system is so out of date that it isn't funny.

Furthermore as far as I know most of a states school funding comes from state taxes. I am sure there is some Federal funding. Oh wait, here is the quote.

Quote:
About 93 percent of school district revenues come from state and local governments, the latter relying largely on property taxes.
So if you want better funded schools, get more levies and bonds going for your schools. Of course your property taxes will go up (or your rent if you are a tennant.)

The Census data, based on estimates from the long form sent to one in six households, showed that among people 25 and older:

21% of Americans had taken some college courses but had not earned a degree in 2000, compared with 18.7% 10 years earlier.
15.5% had earned a bachelor's degree but no higher, compared with 13.1% in 1990.
8.9% earned graduate or professional degrees, compared with 7.2% earlier.
