Anyone else give up their desktop and switch to doing their business only on laptop and mobile?

After about 16 years of using big desktops I'm tired of their heaviness and immobility and wires everywhere.

My friend has a Lenovo yoga and i love it. Nice and light, reasonably powerful enough, im used to a big monitor screen but I'm getting used to a smaller 14" screen the more I use it.
I'm thinking how nice it would be to get rid of my desktop do all my work on a light thin laptop.
Anyone else on this and happy with their decision?

I have both. I have a desktop with two 24 inch monitors for when I need to focus and use both screens to productive and I have a laptop for when I feel like relaxing in the recliner and working at a slower pace.

I have a laptop set up so that I can take it to my 'office' and plug it in to a nice big screen, descent KB/mouse and some extra hard drive space - Use a powered USB hub and you only need to plug in 2 things...

My desktop pretty much just collects dust these days.....

I cant do any real work on a laptop. The only way i can manage is if i attach an external mouse and keyboard, which kinda defeats the purpose.

It is not the same... Unless you plug in keyboard and mouse. Than it might come close, but still not as comfortable to work with.

If you do not plug mouse and/or keyboard than it is way less comfortable to work with. And most likely takes much more time to do the same tasks.

Exactly. Not sure what kind of work people can do on them without sacrificing certain amount of time (takes longer to do tasks on laptop than on desktop).

Yes, and then went back to a desktop, mobile and tablet setup. Got rid of the laptop.

I use desktop (under desk, not top), although I have laptop too collecting dust. Many people I know using laptops, are using large external screen, mouse and a keyboard. So, I don't really see a point in using laptop. I too have extra keyboard and mouse for the laptop, for the little use it has.

While I pick up what you're putting down, I really haven't had any issues.

I run an iMac at the office, and carry my MacBook Pro between the office and home. I use a program called Teleport that allows me to just open my MacBook Pro up next to my iMac on a stand and use my iMac's keyboard and mouse on it as if it was just another display.

I am however upgrading my hardware here in a couple months and will get rid of the iMac in exchange for a beefed up MacBook Pro and 2 daisy chained Thunderbolt displays both at the office and at home where I'll just dock my MacBook Pro between the two setups.

I use a PC. I mean, I use a fucking huge, monster, massive Alienware AURORA computer. However, it's behind my desk. I use three monitors while I work.

I have two laptops and then a Mircosoft Surface, and I've been forcing myself to work from a laptop downstairs after hours but.... I'll never be as fast on a laptop as I am on a PC. Using a tiny track pad slows me down, the keyboard is too high on a laptop and flat - Not very ergonomic at all.

At the end of the day your computer is your keyboard and mouse. On a PC your keyboard and mouse is what you choose. On a laptop you are stuck with whatever keyboard they give you, and they never compare to a keyboard you pick yourself.

I love how you shit all over people for buying Apple, but you tout your Alienware like it's something special. It's a Dell with a fancy logo.

Isn't that day coming tho?

Desktops for sitting there 12 hours a day working my ass off but laptops for when I travel and only work 6 hours a day. LOL

BTW: People who use tablets or smartphones for all their work are scary freaks and should be avoided at all costs.

This last Fri.I picked up a new Dell i7 laptop and hooked up a 23" hdmi monitor as well as a wireless mouse, and keyboard.

I love it's speed. It works like a desktop but if I just unplug it I can take my laptop anywhere without having to boot up a different machine or worry about if I have the same files on my mobile machine.

Also bought a Samsung 10.5 Tab S that is fast but is used for leasure surfing. And I bought a 55" Samsung 3D tv and I can mirror my tablet or laptop to the new tv.

Only device I could see replacing my desktop, would be a Surface Pro 3 with a dock hooked up to my big monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Then again, I am a gamer as well so nothing will ever replace my desktop. I love building my own PCs.

i'll never use a laptop as the primary. what i do is i have my PC running 24-7 & i use a laptop to remote access the PC via teamviewer. that way i get laptop convenience but all the power of my desktop which a laptop will never match. obviously i need a wifi connection but thats becoming less & less of a problem by the year. go ahead & steal my laptop. nothing of value is ever on it.

I tried going to a laptop last year and failed miserably. I'm back to a 3 monitor PC desktop. Laptops are great if you need to type out an email or watch kitten videos while you're pinching a loaf but I can't get any real work done on them.

If you're working at home like me desktop is a must.

I only use my laptop (and mobiles) for leisure (jerking at jap teens and a lot of reading) and bring it on when I'm out of town.

So thats it.

Post PC era is a hoax!
